OK - First, please don't tell me stories to scare me. I DO NOT want to hear the Halloween torture black cat stories. I just need to vent and need good wishes.

I am absolutely stunned and worried.

One year ago tomorrow my black and white cat went missing (he's an indoor cat normally). We hung up posters and signs, visited the humane society, the whole deal. Within a week someone called me to say they saw him in the neighborhood and I went out that night and found him...I was so relieved and all was good.

Fast forward one year later, to today and my cat is again missing. We were gone all day today. I have 3 kids so I easily get distracted with them. Well after being home a couple hours I realize that my cat might be missing.

I went to feed him, and he didn't come.

He is again missing. I cannot even believe it. I have walked around a bit outside and called him, but no luck. DH plans to look around the neighborhood when he gets home.

I am just dumbstruck, I can't believe two years in a row, the same crazy weekend...I am sooooo worried. :sad2:

ETA - :cheer2: He's back! We found him this a.m. No worse for wear, though I'm sure he's happy to be warm again!

Don't worry. We too had a black and white male cat and he had a pattern of going missing like this. I think it's just a coincidence that he's gone missing the same time of year. Is it mating season for cats? (I don't know :confused3 ). Just when we'd think the cat would never return, he'd wander back. Sometimes he was gone for 8 or 9 days. He'd just stroll up to our backdoor like nothing was wrong. For some reason (and I've heard this from other people too) black and white males are very smart. He's probably closer than you think. Ask your neighbors to check their garages and sheds etc, he may have gotten himself locked in somehow. I hope he comes home soon. Good luck.

Thank you, that's just what I needed to hear so I can turn in for the night. I feel guilty knowing how cold it is out there.

He is neutered though so I doubt that'd be why he's wondered. BTW he is 7 years old and until one year ago we have never had this problem before. I can't even believe he's missing again.

:cool1: :Pinkbounc  :cheer2: Yea!!!! This a.m. when I took the dog out I called and called for the cat. Eventually I heard a meow answer. It took some coaxing but my cat is back.

Thank you for the well wishes!

Congrats on finding him! We had a cat that used to get out every now and then. Scared the dickens out of me.

We now have two black kittens that were born under our shed. They are so curious about the outdoors, but between all the wildlife (bears, deer, skunks, racoons, oppossum, coyotes, feral cats), and the whole 'black cat' thing, I do not let them out at ALL.

Give kitty a scritch for me! :)

I'm so glad to hear he came home!

I have an all black cat and I worry about letting her out on Halloween. She is an outdoor cat, and spends most of the afternoon and evening outside. I'm glad your cat is back, they do seem to have a knack for getting lost and turning up days later. My neighbor's cat went missing and showed up a month later! She was very happy :cheer2:

For those of you with black cats please don't worry. All that stuff people claim is BS. There has NEVER been a reported case of black cats being killed or tortured on Halloween. It's insane that people still believe this, shelters won't let them be adopted this time of year... bunch of morons who know very well it doesn't happen, but still keep these poor animals from finding a home! .... well that my vent.

And grats on finding the cat... we have one that likes to vanish for a day or two also. She's our little huntress.

I was just reading about this in today's paper. It seems that this year will be the first in a loooooong time that New York shelters will let black cats be adopted on and around Halloween. They will use extra caution in screening potential owners though.

Just a friendly reminder from someone who spends all her off time at a local shelter - why risk losing your cat to a car, stranger or another animal? I have 3 cats who live inside full time and do just fine. At least I know that they are always safe and warm unlike the ones that come into our shelter.

Thanks for listening!

I second this, my three cats are indoors-only. They don't make for the door either, although they'll stand around and peer outside if it's open for some reason. I know for sure one of them would not survive long. He was a stray around the apt and he refused to move when cars were coming at him. Finally we took him in, I didn't want to see him dead one morning. I'm so glad we did because he is the best kitty ever! They all are!

My cat is an indoor cat, as posted in my original message...he just happened to escape as the door was open when kids were going in and out (and we didn't even see it happen).

I'm so happy you found your kitty.

There have been times my kids have locked our cats in closets on accident and I've thought theuy got out too. Its a terrible worry and I glad it ended well for you & your family.
