Hi,

I've been reading a lot of posts lately about teacher gifts and what not to give, so I've been trying to come up with something for all of the teachers, office staff, and others at DS's and DD's schools for the holidays. So, I came up with the idea of having them make suet birdfeeders on a ribbon (I have seen some directions on the web). I even made up a silly poem to go along with them:

All last winter we wanted to share
Some treats with the birds flying high in the air.
So we placed bird-feeders up in our tree
And every morning we got to see
Little birds, blue, red, and brown
Spy our feeders and come flying down.
So this year we thought we'd share it with you -
We made some feeders for you to hang too!

So, what do you think?

I think that is very very sweet. My mom used to be a school nurse and i know she would have loved it. SHe used to be soo over loaded with candles and lotions and bubble bath. I used to get alot of it LOL or it got regifted the next yr. I have been searching for a good idea for my son's teacher, do you mind if I swipe your idea and poem ???

Swipe away! :teeth:

If I find a good "recipe" tonight I'll try to post it as well. I know I've found them before, it's just a matter of googling and then finding one that looks easy enough for 4 and a (almost!) 8 year olds to do!

OK, after some searching on the web, I've decided that my "recipe" will be to go to Petsmart! :rotfl:

I had really thought I'd seen something online some time ago that looked easy to make, but maybe I'm not remembering it correctly. All of the directions I found today call for lard, suet and/or peanut butter to be melted and then combined with birdseed. I'm just not sure how long that would keep, and since I want to make these a little bit ahead of time, I don't want to risk them turning bad.

So, I checked Petsmart online, and they have bell-shaped suet feeders for about $2 each. We could still attach a pretty ribbon and the poem, so I think this could still work. Plus, the bell shape will look holiday-ish!

I might have to swipe that idea too! It's very cute, consumable, and inexpensive.

We got my SIL a pet store gift card for Christmas, as she has a new puppy, so that would be a cute thing to put with it. She likes birds a lot too. :)

Whatever I do for my kids (preschool & 1st grade), there are people who are getting gift cards, but it's nice to jazz it up a little.

This is such a great idea. Be careful if you give it to any english teachers, though; the last word should be "too" not "to"

Thanks! ;) I have quite a habit of typing faster than I think! Correction made to the original post.
