OT: Thicker shirts for girls starting puberty...

Many of the girls in the middle school where I teach wear lots of layers. One girl yesterday was wearing 3 tank tops. Most of the girls wear a cami under the thin tees. Don't overlook the discount stores for layering pieces.

As for single-layers, I had luck on Saturday at JC Penney. They had some nice heavier tees.

She sure has my empathy. I developed pretty early, and was SO embarrassed I couldn't even talk to my mom about it, and would yell at her every time she suggested getting me a bra.

I was SO mortified by it. And yet jealous of the *popular* girl who was developing at the same time.

And my oldest friend was constantly jealous of my development, while I was jealous of her thin frame. Our moms were friends, and they tried to get us to understand that we were both jealous of each other and therefore we were both envy-worthy, but we never believed them.

It's a hard time. Actually, you both have my empathy.

Thank you! I needed that. I developed fairly early and remember the whole bra shopping with my Mom. So awful...it's so hard that she doesn't feel good about herself. I really feel bad that she's trying to bear being hot under a sweatshirt all day. It's so hot in the school right now. She'll be fine, I hope, after getting used to it. I'm going shopping here in town tomorrow to get some layering tees and tanks.

Thanks for the suggestions of the stores. I wouldn't even have thought about Gymboree or Express. This is so hard right now because she's growing out of the butterflies, hearts and flowers stage. She wants plain clothes yet wants patterns to hide the bra lines. UGH. Will try some or all of the suggestions here. Anything!! Thanks!

I would purchase the thicker camis or wear a tank top underneath. Layering is in style now. Target has some of the thicker undershirts.
