Let the Doughnut Wars Begin

Will New Yorkers prefer Timbits over Munchkins? That taste test will begin this weekend when about a dozen Dunkin’ Donuts stores in the city will be transformed into the first local outlets of Tim Hortons, the king of doughnut sellers in Canada.

The Riese Organization, the company that first visited the urban food court upon Manhattan, is ending its affiliation with Dunkin’ Donuts and hoping it can make more money with a chain named after a dead hockey player. Mr. Horton, a six-time all-star in the National Hockey League, opened a doughnut-and-coffee shop in Ontario 45 years ago. He died in a car crash 10 years later, but the chain grew on.

Well, the new logo is horrible. They should have kept it the same.

Won't be long until its in every state. Well, at least Disney would be nice

My BF is a Cdn living in the US & a former Tim Hortons addict. When the area she used to live in opened a TH she raced to the drive thru but claims that there is something different about it & it is not the same as here.
So who knows how well they'll do?

For me, it's the coffee that keeps me going back to Tim's. Dunkin Donuts has horrible coffee, too. I think people will warm to the idea of a good standard cup of coffee, especially now that people aren't spending the $5 for a daily Starbucks latte like they used to.

I have been bugging dh for years to open a Tim's on I-Drive or the Crossroads center before someone else does! With all the Canadians at Disney, I think it would do great! They have Tim's all over the place when we got to Detroit now.

I know what you mean....my friends and I went cross border shopping on the weekend and we hit the new Tim's while in Tops. It was good but not quite the same. Still, it's better than anyplace else over there. My Dh hates all US coffee.

Maybe some day we can buy our daily cup of Canadian crack while leisurely touring about Epcot

When DW and I went to Hawaii on our honeymoon we both were trying to rack our brains to figure out how we could move there. My only solution was to open a Tim's in Waikiki. So almost 10 years later I am still trying to raise the money I need to go for it (assuming they would even give me the franchise!) Maybe I shouldn't've bought into DVC afterall. I forgot about that goal of ours.
