OT - Tallahassee FL????

OT - Tallahassee, Florida????
Hi. My DH found out that there is a job for him in Tallahassee, FL making MORE than what he is making here in NJ and we'd love to move to Florida, but know nothing about Tallahassee. Does anyone know anything about this area? We were looking at Tampa, so we know a lot about that, but really nothing of Tallahassee which is part of Florida's panhandle.

Can anyone help??? Thanks!

I don't know much about Tallahassee, but we did drive through there once and I thought the downtown area was beautiful! I don't remember what road we were on, but we were taking a scenic route to Panama City Beach. Either before or after we passed through downtown Tallahassee, we saw some beautiful neighborhoods. My husband works with a guy that went to college up there and lived there for a while after he graduated, and I know that he and his wife really enjoyed living there through college and a few years after college.

Good luck! I hope it works out for you. If you do move there, you'll be within a reasonable drive to some really gorgeous beach towns!!!!! (Sea Side, Watercolor)

We've driven through a few times going to and from WDW. It is a pretty city. I would think it is far enough from the coasts to not have the threat of terrible storms but close enough for a day trip. Also, not too bad a drive to WDW, certainly a much shorter trip than from NJ! It will be warmer weather than you are used to, I can't remember if there are any movies with footage from that area?

You may want to post this question on the Community Board - there are lots of helpful people over there who could give you more information. I've thought about moving there - I work for the state of Pennsylvania and could probably get a job with the state of Florida. However, I'm really hoping to move closer to WDW someday. Guess I'll have to put up with cold PA winters for a few more years.

If I had the chance to move there, I'd take it!! Good luck with your decision!

We live about 100 miles from Tallahassee!!! We used to go there quite a bit and we really love the town (except when there is a game at FSU...the traffic is really bad then!!)

It doesn't really feel like Fl at all. It reminds me of laid back south GA. They have the big Oaks with the spanish moss hanging fom them which is very southern.

It is the Capital city so they have quite a few big city buildings but they also have plantations nearby. There are all types of subdivisions to choose from with ALL types of price ranges. I have seen some mansions that are incredible!!!

I think you would enjoy living there though. If I were still single I would move there!!!

I used to live about 30 minutes north of Tallahassee and we went there all the time. It's a great city with SO much to do! The malls are great as well as the museums, etc. mum4jenn is right is does seem more like south Georgia than Florida. If you move there I'm sure you will find lots to do and enjoy about it! It's a beautiful place.

I don't live in Tallahassee, but my son does. The times I have been there I have enjoyed. Keep in mind there are 2 colleges there so from Sept - April there are a lot of students around. My son was amazed at how quiet the city was over the Christmas holiday with the students all gone. Also, another plus for the state of Florida is we don't have a State tax.
