My family will be in Disney World in 4 weeks!!!!

After that, I would like to take my middle daughter on a trip to six Flags. She participated in the math-A-thon for St. Jude at her school (and raised 700.00!!!) and won a free ticket to six flags. Her older sister chose not to participate and alas won no ticket to six flags. We would probably need to spend at least one night (probably 2) at a hotel since the closest Six Flags is 5 hours away.
I feel guilty when I think of doing this!!

So, would this be great for her or just mean to her other sisters?

Any suggestions from middle children out there? She is constantly compared to her older sister and many kids her age gravatate towards the older sister. She seems OK with it but I know it must hurt her feelings. Anyway, I just wonder if it would be a good idea to only take her to six flags and leave her 2 sisters at home with Dad. I also thought of taking a friend (would a parent agree to this?) or my niece who is a year older than her.

Any thoughts or suggestions???

thanks!!!!!

I really think this could be a wonderful time for your middle daughter and you. And, she might really want to spend the time with you and not another girl. Of course, if you could get someone to watch the other kids, maybe you and your husband could take a trip with your middle daughter. She deserves the award she won!

I took my middle son on an overnight trip last summer. My oldest daughter was visiting the grandparents and my husband couldn't go last minute. I had promised our son, and really thought it would be fun. The youngest daughter stayed home with DH.

We had a great time. He's so different with that kind of one-on-one attention. He's just the perfect little gentleman, always thoughtful, grateful and appreciative. With my older daughter, he's often defensive and with the youngest daughter, he's sometimes very goofy (and lovable, too).

Anyways, we had so much fun there that the NEXT weekend the WHOLE family went back for an overnight trip where my son acted as tourguide. And, I really treasure the time I get with the kids one-on-one, because it doesn't happen too much.

GOOD LUCK!

What a great mom you are! The concern in your post really touched me!

I'm not a middle child, just the youngest...but my opinion is that you and your middle daughter should go alone. She won the award and deserves to have a little one-on-one time with mom. You can always schedule a day of shopping or some other fun activity with your oldest daughter so she doesn't feel left out.

This is just my opinion, but the alone time with your middle daughter will really mean a lot. My mom passed away 7 years ago, and the best thoughts I have of her are of when we did stuff just the two of us. We never went on a mother/daughter trip...but simple things like going Christmas shopping or going for walks around the neighborhood really mean a lot to me. This trip will definitely give your middle child a wonderful memory that she can carry the rest of her life.

Good luck to you! It's not easy having to try and keep everyone happy!
