Sorry if this topic has been discussed recently. I did not see one through search engine. The bridge book our school recommends is not great IMHO, but I would like to keep DDs skills up during the summer. Any suggestions on materials to use ? She'll be a 4th grader in the fall. I am not concerned about reading as she usually participates in a program through our library. I would like to find a math book that she can work on. Last summer she did 15-30 minutes every morning as a part of her routine and it worked out well, but the material wasn't the best. PLMK what you have used for this age group that is challenging and fun.

I don't remember any one book being better than another, but I was just looking at Barnes and Noble type places. What I did find however is that the material in the bridge grades 3-4 books for instance really were more appropriate bridging grades 2-3 in our area - and the the schools here aren't that advanced, kwim? So I bought books for at least one grade higher than DS was entering and that worked out well to just keep up the skills he'd already learned. We didn't do every single page either, maybe half of them but it did make a BIG difference as he started the school year... you could tell who hadn't done anything over the summer!

Ask her teacher to put together a packet for her to do over the summer. I do that every year and it is really great. They send at least 100 pages, stuff to review and some harder work for the next grade.

Let me ask my mom if she's picked out a book yet for my sister. My sister will be in the fourth grade next year as well, and we really want to keep her math skills sharp. I know she needs to work on long division, so we've googled some math pages for her on that.

For reading, my mom being a third grade teacher really helped. She picked some "age appropriate" books from scholastic, and ordered them before the end of the year. Jordyn will be done with them in no time, but my mom is making her write a small book report on each book. Just your basic comprehension sort of thing. My sister is being tested this year for gifted, so my mom really wants to keep her stimulated during the summer. She gets really bored otherwise.

If you pm me, I'll write you back tonight or tomorrow after I speak with my mom. HTH!

Do you have a Beckers Taecher stores near you, or maybe check online, they have wonderful books that I have used for summer in all subjects.
