Dh and I are in need of a short getaway. We are thinking of heading to the finger lakes next week for a couple days. We have never been there and it is so hard to find something when you don't know the area at all. We would like to tour some wineries and stay in a quaint, quiet, romantic place.

We have only been away from the kids 1 time - 2 years ago we went away for the weekend. So this is hard for me but I am so looking forward to just some time for us :cool1: .

Any advice on the area?

TIA

I live in the Finger Lakes, maybe I can help.

My favorite village in the Finger Lakes is Skaneateles, NY. It's beautiful... lots of little shops and some very good restaurants. I would recommend staying at the Mirbeau Inn & Spa or the Sherwood Inn.

The Springside Inn in Auburn, NY is a quiet, romantic Inn. (Where Bill and Hilary Clinton stay when passing through town.)

In Canandaigua, NY, I visited friends staying at the Inn On The Lake. It seemed nice and we had a very relaxing time just sitting out by the lake. (These were friends from Canada, and all over the States, who met on an American Idol message board, and have stayed friends over the years.) We also did the wine trails.

Ithaca is also a great little city, lots to do.

A couple of links... (hope I'm allowed to post links)

Thanks! The Springside or the Sherwood Inn both look like exactly what we are looking for.

I have already sent email inquiries to both places. Any other suggestions welcome!

The Sherwood Inn is in the village, directly across the street from Skaneateles Lake, and has a wide open view of the lake. You can walk to everything in the village.

The Springside Inn sets way back off the road, across the street from Owasco Lake, just south of the city of Auburn. It is right at the start of a residential area, so it's very quiet, and has a pond and is surrounded with lots of trees. I don't think you can see much of the lake, but Owasco Lake Park is only about a quarter of a mile down the road.

Auburn is only about a 10 minute drive from Skaneateles.

As for the wine trails... there are many wineries located on the next couple of lakes to the west, Cayuga and Seneca Lakes. From Auburn, it's about a 15 minute drive to the village of Senca Falls, which is at the north end of Cayuga Lake. (There are other wine trails around the other lakes, but these are the ones I'm most familiar with.)

*My husband is scheduled to sing at Springside Inn, ths Wed. He's been having trouble with his allergies and may have to cancel.

Enjoy your trip. Let me know what you decide or post when you get back.

Just a couple of weeks ago DH and I stayed @ Belhurst castle- it was awesome! We have also stayed at Geneva on the lake. They are both right near eachother; both have wonderful restaurants! Good luck and have fun!
