We really would like to get some skylights installed due to a really dark living room. We have found roofers do them as well as regular window installers, has anyone has some put in without being new construction? I have asked a lot of people and no one seems to know.

We put in a solar tube and it was very easy. We did bring over the roofing contractor neighbor to make sure we did it right.

We had skylights installed when we lived in a loft and had a roofing contractor put them in. Our condo association insisted on a roofing contractor as opposed to window installers.

We have only had skylights in new construction but we have skylights that open with screens. I would highly recommend these if you can find them. Good luck!

We just had a skylight installed in our back patio cover. The skylight itself was around $300 at Lowe's, and it took less than a day for our handyman to put it in. It isn't one that opens though, so that might be what kept the cost down a bit.

Be careful about getting permits for it though. Every city and township is different. Our particular township requires permits for just about everything, including a new dishwasher installation.
