Rumor: Moscone schedule + "corporate event" = Verizon iPhone?

by Ken Ray (RSS feed) on Dec 21st 2009 at 8:00AM
Rumors and speculation are fun. Sometimes 2 + 2 = 4... and sometimes they don't add up to anything. Here's today's equation:

Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference 2010 seems likely to happen at the end of June/beginning of July.

The schedule for the Moscone Center, traditional home of WWDC, shows a "Corporate Event" running June 28 through July 2, 2010. This is around when Apple usually holds WWDC. "Corporate Event" has been the WWDC placeholder-name on the Moscone schedule in the past, at least until Apple was ready to say, "Hey everybody, we're having a party and here's when!" Additionally, Moscone is booked for all of June and most of July by other companies or organizations. Given that, it's likely that WWDC 2010 will be June 28 through July 2.

That space on the calendar may be a big deal.

If WWDC goes the way these things normally do, registration and other pre-conference fun will happen on Monday, June 28. The WWDC keynote will take place on Tuesday, June 29 -- three years to the day after the first iPhone was released.

Maybe Apple had to settle for that week because the International Stem Cell Conference and the NACUBO Annual Meeting beat them to the dates they really wanted. But it's also possible that Apple is waiting until its exclusivity deal with AT&T ends -- the exact day its exclusivity deal ends -- before announcing an iPhone for Verizon, T-Mobile, or Sprint.

Verizon's CTO made noise last week about his company being prepared for the iPhone in terms of network capacity, though he said nothing about an actual deal.

Do you think 2 + 2 = anything this time?

I've been hearing rumors about that ever since the iPhone came out-even from some of the Apple geek guys that worked at the store where I bought my iMac.

If they do get it, I'll be plunking down the $99 to get one. I want the cool phone AND the coverage.

Please let this rumor come true. I so want an iPhone but refuse to go to ATT for service.

Me too, me too!!

I am so torn. I need a new phone, but keep hesitating-waiting for a possible iphone with Verizon. I'd hate to get locked into a 2 yr contract only months before the iphone is released.

I may go ahead and get a Droid in the meantime.

I got an enV touch to bide my time. I figured by the time the iphone came out I'd be ready for a new one anyway. Also, that one was free with the 2 year agreement-I don't believe iPhones are ever part of that kind of promo.

The keynote has to happen on the Monday. WWDC is already short of session space. They couldn't shorten the conference by a day. That's not to say that they won't announce a new carrier though. There are iPhone app developers reporting that a new model iPhone has been hitting their sites. They same thing happened prior to the 3G and 3G/S being announced.

I will have an iPhone the day after this happens.

:woohoo:

who was it that works for Verizon, that was asking about ETicket for Blackberries at the live taping...she said, "We don't have the iPhone...yet." :goodvibes

Over in the uk our previous only iPhone provider (o2) recently lost it's exclusivity and by early next year there will be three carriers in the uk offering the iPhone.
I wouldn't expect any 'deals' or 'offers' tho when exclusivity is lost, all the uk carriers give pretty much identical tariffs. I guess it's still so popular that they don't NEED to offer deals

:goodvibes

I hope this happens. I heard rumors about this for awhile... that Verizon really wanted the iphone next, but now I'm reading articles that maybe a deal is out with them (because of the droid, and the anti-apple commercials there doing now). But who knows? I'd go for the iphone if it came to verizon in a heartbeat.

I had an iphone and dumped it because of ATT's coverage. I will buy one in a heart beat! Put me in line right behind the others!!!!

As of now I'm planning to drop the AT&T coverage because it sucks around here. Love the phone, hate all the dropped calls. Going back to Verizon when the contract is up.

So many of these rumors...they all come to nothing. For now I'm sticking this in the "Too good to be true" column. Hope it isn't, but think it is.

Both Jimmy & I will be RUNNING back to Verizon for this!!:banana::banana:

(But, I'm still glad I went ahead and bought my Iphone already, anyway! I'm addicted to the thing!)

That would be me. I was asking in general about E-ticket for other platforms And since Pete said they would not be developing E-ticket for the Blackberry, I knew I wouldn't get that phone. I was aiming for the Droid. Since my contract isn't up until August, around the time I am eligible for a new phone, hopefully the iPhone announcement will have been made.
