I was wondering what people's reccomendations are for ring insurance? I know my mom has it for hers [though her's is substantially larger] Would you reccomend getting it for a 1/2 carat?

I am not a big jewlrey person, and when I got my ring I was scared to death of losing it/breaking it/etc as I don't normally wear anything nearly as expensive as that! We got a jewlrey policy added to our renters insurance that covers it and a bunch of other jewlrey items I have. It was very reasonably priced, and easy to set up....you just have to take your items to a jewler and get appraisals for each of the items you wish to insure then take those papers to the insurance agent who takes care of the rest. Even though I am extremely careful with my ring, it gives a huge relief that if ANYTHING happens to my ring, it is covered.

I insured the engagement I bought for my DF just for the peace of mind. It was so inexpensive to add it to my current insurance and it covers everything from damage and theft, to just plain losing it.

I work for an auto & home insurance company, and it's totally worth it to add the ring to your homeowners policy. Many companys (check with yours to be sure) will offer all risk coverage on the ring, meaning that ANYTHING that happens to it is covered... (ie you drop it down a garbage disposal...lose it at the beach in the sand...diamond falls out of the setting...etc)

Most companies also offer that coverage with no deductible attached, and some even offer a deductible if you wanted to lower the cost. Although it usually doesn't cost much to add a piece for the year.

Good luck! :wizard:

There was another thread about e-ring insurance on here awhile back. The consensus was to definitely get it insured. Insurance will give you the money to get another ring and whether your ring was $500 or $50,000 it's still money that you don't want to lose and pay twice. You'll need a certified appraisal, which isn't cheap, but it will give you every detail on your e-ring, including pictures. My insurance company told me to get a separate policy for my e-ring. That way, if we're ever dropped (we live in FL and homeowners insurance companies drop people all the time) or we leave them, or move, we won't have any lapse in coverage. So, we have a completely separate jewelry policy for my e-ring. I'm covered 100% for loss, theft, mugging (Heaven forbid!), or if the stone gets damaged. It makes me feel better to have the insurance, knowing if something did happen it can be replaced.

My DH proposed to me on our dating "anniversary." He gave an insurance policy to me as my "anniversary" gift. One of the best gifts he's ever given me. We renew it each year for about $150 for several items including my E ring.

DEFINITELY worth it!
