What has this got to do with VMK?

To tie this discussion into VMK- when someone says they are bored in the game- I always tell them to log off the computer and go read a book...

Now I will have some suggestions to offer.

My book recomendations:
1. Harry Potter of course
2. Anything by Roald Dahl (love his stories)
3. Artemis Fowl Series
4. Series of Unfortunate Events
5. Great Gatsby
6. Outsiders
7. Flowers for Algernon
8. I Robot
9. Most of Judy Bloom's books (the young adult and kid ones)
10. Stephen King
11. Alex Delaware novels (character name- I went blank on author)
12. Dean Koontz
13. Jane Austin
14. Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea
15. Little House on the Prairie books
I could make a really long list- but I found some of the best books fall on the top 100 most banned books list- and you know what- I read most of those lol-

Tishke- I was above my classmates reading levels too- but my home was always filled with lots and lots of books

My oldest son was like that too- in 1st grade he was reading The Oddesy and Illead (spelling?) with a friend of his- and the school about had a fit- wanted him to read his level books for accelerated reader- well there was no way he'd read those- so he always did poor on accelerated reader things with his adult reading level- I know I had to argue about the program being there to encourage reading- why punish my son who loved to read already- He used to love the animorph books, red wall series and I'm sure there are others- now he is mostly reading Manga...

Oldest DD is not a "reader" she can't get through a book unless it captures her attention quickly- but she has read several Nancy Drew Books (and enjoyed them) and now I noticed her reading lots more than she did before

Youngest dd- is somewhere in between the two- not as an avid reader as the oldest and definitely more into reading then her sister- her favorite series right now is the "Magic TreeHouse" books-

And well- the baby- he just likes books- especially with lots of pictures and if they have a duck- it is a definite plus lol

DH reads biographies -mostly American History things...

And for non- readers out there- "don't have the time" "don't really like to read" "have trouble reading" - there is the Uncle John's Bathroom Reader- all the things in the book are short and easy to read meant for bathroom education lol but they have a variety of things from unusual to factual and some just good old stories- Oh and I read somewhere once that it is a sign of a brilliant mind if you read in the bathroom lol

Well, I just stumbled upon this thread, and I am glad I did. I LOVE to read, and I am currently reading Half-Blood Prince of the Harry Potter series. I started them just before Christmas and have been reading them back-to-back ever since. Now I am almost done, until the 7th book comes out.

I have read both The DaVinci Code and Angels & Demons, and they were both quite good - very exciting. I read Angels & Demons after DaVinci Code, and it didn't make much difference. There is very little reference to Angels & Demons in DaVinci Code, so reading them in either order works, even though Angels & Demons was first.

I have read all of Anne Rice's books and greatly enjoyed them. I have also read Kingdom Keepers. It was a light, fun read. I got both of Steve Martin's novels for Christmas and will read them as soon as I finish the Harry Potter series. I may read the Narnia series after that as I have only read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

I was looking at that "banned" list as well! I could not believe the books they had! I too have read many from the list. What confused me were the books Where's Waldo are concidered banned! Also, I say the same thing
when someone says they are bored in the game- I always tell them to log off the computer and go read a book...
lol. I have read a few from your list virtuallyme and back up those recommendations. Jane Austin's Emma and Pride and Prejudice are good! The Great Gatsby is a must! Flowers for Algernon was also very good. Another author I would suggest is Mitch Albom.

I'm getting ready to head out to Barnes and Noble....so hopefully I will be back with a good book :goodvibes

I can assume that book is about the Iditarod Dog Sled Racing in Alaska right? lol. If so, who was the author, maybe I can suggest some other books you could be interested in that might only take you two days!! lol. :teeth:

What are some good crime books? I know of Patricia Cornwell and was just wondering if anyone has read books similar to hers; really interesting forensics.

I am a huge true crime fan. My absolutely favorite author for that genre is Ann Rule. She is a former police officer from the West Coast, and some cases she has firsthand knowledge of (she worked on a crisis hotline with Ted Bundy). Two of her best books, in my opinion, are Bitter Harvest and Small Sacrifices. They are truly horrifying crimes, but they are written so well that you can't put the books down. You get the details of how the crimes were perpetrated, the backstory of the victims, and the trial process. It's like Law and Order in book form :thumbsup2

That is exactly who I thought it would be. Gary Paulsen writes about dog sleding so it makes sense lol. Is that the only book you have read by him? If not, other Adult non-fiction books he has written include: Eastern Sun, Winter Moon, and Clabbered Dirt, Sweet Grass. He has written SO many books but to stick close to what you read (in the sense of it being Adult non-fiction) these are the ones I mentioned lol. :teeth:

Now, why didn't I read this thread earlier? I love to read! Although, right now my reading for fun is severely cut down due to reading for class (yeah, go me, pick a class with 11 required texts).
Anyways last semester when I was still an education major, we had to come up with a list of our ten favorite books. I thought I'd share mine. Some of the books are for kids, some are for adults, and some are for both!
Here goes:

1. Lamb – Christopher Moore
2. Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man – Fannie Flag
3. Pride and Prejudice – Jane Austen
4. To Kill a Mockingbird – Harper Lee
5. The Phantom Tollbooth – Norman Juster
6. Island of the Blue Dolphins – Scott O’Dell
7. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire – J.K. Rowling
8. The Stephanie Plum Series – Janet Evanovich
9. Sense and Sensibility – Jane Austen
10. The Outsiders – S.E. Hinton

I never really enjoyed reading as a kid, but I love to read now. I read the Outsiders whe I was in the 8th grade in 1978 and I just couldn't put it down. It was the first book that made me cry. We also read in class a book called The Pigman. I have no idea who the author is, bit I loved that one as well.

I read Snow Falling on Cedars while riding the comuter train to Boston for jury duty and enjoyed that. I also couldn't put down The Da Vincci Code. The Five People You meet in Heaven is awesome too!!
I just finished reading The Bergdorf Blondes....Very fluffy and towards the end I just kept thinking,,, enough already, let's get to the end. I have Wicked, but haven't read it yet. That or Cold Mountain will be the next that I read.

When my oldest daughter was in the sixth grade she was reading Where the Red Fern Grows for class. I remember her coming downstairs sobbing and said through tears...That was the saddest book I have ever read!.
