OT: quick fun last minute summer trip

So we have the vacation itch but we do not have enough time to go to Disney (we always drive).
Trying to think of a fun vacation for two kids ages 12 and 14 with parents.
Can be within 10-12 hours of Toronto, ON and do not want to break the bank. Will have about 5 days. Kids are not content to sit on beaches, etc as not their thing........

Any suggestions? Would prefer not to be hugely expensive. Looked at Darien Lake but not sure if much else to do around there.

Disney has spoiled us:-(

Anyone been to Cedar Point, Hershey park, Dorney? Or anything else that is within a shorter time frame?

My BF and I are heading to Rochester, NY in a couple weeks. We know we'll find it easy to find things to do for 5 days while we're there, not so sure about you.

But there is the Museum of Play - which is good for ALL ages. My BF and I are going WITHOUT his son so that my BF can enjoy the museum (he's obsessed with video games and there's a large section about just that). So it'd probably be of interest to teenagers.

They also have a science museum (with a musical tesla orchestra). And a whole load of other museums that we haven't looked into.

And there's horseback riding, mini-golf/go-karts/arcade, a very large drive-in movie.

If you're willing to drive that far, there's a lot of places you can go to. A few off the top of my head that might fit the bill:

- Wisconsin Dells
- Mackinac Island
- Collingwood
- Mt. Tremblant
- Lake Placid
- Cleveland (with a side trip to Cedar Point)

We are in williamsbug va and drove from northeren ontario 16 hours. We love it. But Baltimore is cool too and lots going on. My kids are 12 & 14 as well. We did Busch Gardens and water countrt. Also Colonial Williamsburg. Neat place.

Thanks everyone. Williamsburg VA looks great...not sure about 11 hour drive but seems to be everything we are looking for. May opt for the Cleveland too. I knew I could find some great suggestions here. We did want to go out of Canada We have had hockey tournaments in Rochester so will go somewhere else but thanks for that info Kogo Shuko as I had no idea and will have to check that out next time we are there. Unfortuantely we are not big water park people so not sure Splash Lagoon is right for us....or Wisconsin Dells.
Anyone else been to Williamsburg and have ideas for must dos? Or Cleveland? What about Gurnee IL?

Hey there we are here til ( williamsburg) we have LOVED IT. Busch here is amazing. We stopped in Baltimore for a night on the way here and did a ball game at Camden Yards. That was great fun to. We stayed at the Holiday Inn at the Stadiums. Free shuttle to Inner Harbour, Aquarium & ball game.
If you would like the name of the timeshare owner I used for williamsburg I would be happy to share it with you.

We did Williamsburg a few years ago and loved it. Busch and the Water Park are amazing. We were able to get combo passes at CAA and really used the water park as it was 95+ every day.

In June we took a long weekend to the Columbus Zoo. It was amazing! A world class facility and kind of put Toronto to shame. We spent 2 full days and it also has a water park and a few small rides (extra).

Cleveland is on the way you also go through Erie so you could do a road trip. The long weekend we are camping at the Erie KOA which we love and they have cabins.

I live in the Cleveland area. Cedar Point is only an hour away and is a great amusement park for roller coaster fans.

Zoo
Great Lakes Science Center

Football Hall of Fame is in Canton about 1 hour away.
