OT: Puppy names

What does the breeder require? Our berner puppy came from a litter in which all the puppies were named for Classic Literature. We were allowed to submit three names we liked that fit into the theme, and the breeder chose.

We don't have any naming requirements from the breeder.

Well we got a chocolate lab for christmas last year and name her Montana, she was the largest of the litter. As soon as I suggested it my dd5, yelled "YES, HANNAH MONTANA"!! Well that wasn't why I thought of it, but okay. So everyone calls her Montana, but dd.

My DD13 insists that if we ever get a dog that's tan or brown that we have it name it either Toffee or Praline.

My own preference is to name pets "people names". Here are some that still seem fit for a dog/are ones that I've heard used before.

Girls:
Madison, Delaney, Bella, Hailey, Avery (unisex), Claire, Natalie, Aubrey, Kennedy, Skylar, Reagan, Savannah, Brenna, Emily

Boys: Jack, Peyton, Brady, Connor, Cooper, Patrick, Gavin, Russell, Aidan, Cole, Keegan, Nolan, Mason, Daughtry, Bennett (the last two were our puppies growing up), Keegan (unisex)

I just realized there are names of two presidents and two football players, just a coincidence!

We have a yellow lab and her name is Adidas.
We got her from the Breeder with the name (she was 9months) and soon figured out why. she gets super excited and runs in circles.

My DH had a black lab growing up and his name was Tarr.

friends have a yellow lab name Pooh Bear.

I have a 20 pound pug named Bowser Tatortot- tatortot came from the shape of his body- he looks like one! And my son picked Bowser as he is a video game addict.

I also have a 5 pound shih tzu named Marlie Star - Marlie short for Marilyn Monroe.

We have Daisy and Sofie. Twins...:D

My 1st chocolate lab was Maggie (RIP) she looked like a Maggie. I also called her Sweetums, because she was sooo sweet. My current chocolate lab's name is JoDee after JoDee Messina (country singer). Her nickname has become DoDee :confused3 We always seem to have goofy nicknames for our pets. We usually pick a couple before, but when we meet them that is the true test of what their name will be. Good luck and have fun!!!

I like choosing names for dogs that make you laugh when you look at their precious faces. For example, I had an English Springer Spaniel named Oliver. He was a stitch and had such a great heart, and he truly embodied the name Oliver. I miss him so much sometimes, even though it seems that he's been gone forever :sad2:

But someday soon I plan to adopt a rescue dog (some kind of bigger breed). If it's a boy, he'll be Wilson. If it's a girl, she'll be Stella.

:rotfl2: (yes, I crack myself up)

I like Reese and love Guiness. Dh is a big fan of Guiness. Do you call him by a nickname or shortened version?

Unfortunately he does get called guin or guinny which I swore would NEVER happen!!!!!!

Thought of another one we were thinking of for guinness....skore (as in a skore's bar)

hi there, we have a female yellow lab and we named her remi...i just heard a great name for a boy though, nash....love it, but one crazy yellow lab pup is enough for us...:lmao:
sharon

We have a Golden Retriever mixed with dash hound. (Looks just like a Golden, but is longer and only 30lbs) His name is Bogie. We also joke if we would get a full size Golden the we could name him Double Bogie. DH loves golf and he would be double to triple the size.

My son has a chocloate lab named Cocoa. (He also has a black lab named Ebo).

The father of the litter we were supposed to get a puppy from was named Erinhill's Guiness Stout, but was called Keg. :goodvibes Unfortunately the dog wasn't pregnant, so we are getting from a different litter by the same breeder. The puppies were born on Valentine's Day, the day after our lab passed away. I feel like it is fate. Maybe my dog has been reincarnated into the puppy we are going to get!

keg...cute!!!! :rotfl: Sorry to hear about your other lab...Guinness' dad (Dutch) died in early March. My mom hasn't stopped crying yet! He was a wonderful dog and he gave me Guinness! :thumbsup2 I got Guinness very young (5 weeks) since the female owners were going on a vacation. WHat a nightmare....but he was (and is) so cute!

We had a chocolate for 13 years, his AKC name was Tispaquin's Jacob (for the name of the street we lived on at the time) we called him Jake for short. Since then we've had a black which we named OSJ's Michief Maker (OSJ was his sires names initials Ocean Spray Jonah) we called him Chief for short. He went on to become a terrific bomb detecting dog for the Maine State Police. We then had 2 cocker spaniels - Allie (Little Miss Domino Allie) and Ruffian (Poor Farms Ruffian) - Last spring we got another chocolate - which we named Finnegan (we should have named him Goofy though!) Try taking the names of the mother and father dogs and combining them for a name.
My sister had a Rottie that we ended up naming Count VonOberon something - and he ended up being called Bear.

All great dogs regardless of their names. Enjoy your new puppy.:thumbsup2

Hey, did you decide?? :confused3 Just noticed you were from S Jersey....I am almost as south as you can get...we must be neighbors!!

Our beloved dogs were named - Velvet - she was a black lab mix & her coat looked just velvet, Muffin - Sheltie mix originally named Mittens, we adopted her at about 5 months & changed her name to Muffin because she was so sweet. Our present dog is named Muffin's Maggie May, she's my only AKC dog & a beautiful Sheltie. Muffin, because I wanted to get my Sheltie mix's name in the AKC registry & Maggie May for my favorite Rod Stewart song. She's Maggie for short, or Maggie May is she's not listening to me!

Good luck with your new puppy - they're just great, aren't they?:goodvibes
