I need some help. I have to bring a healthy snack for my DD's 3-4 yr old preschool class. The problem is there is no nuts and no dairy allowed because of an allergy. Any ideas? My DD doesn't eat jello or applesauce.

Maybe goldfish - or the pretzel goldfish? What about apple slices...if you were real brave maybe with dipping caramel ( I think that would be okay with the restrictions). Fruit Loops or Cheerios even? My DD likes chocolate pudding and cheese and crackers - but obviously those two wouldn't be allowed. (Of course I go for those because she doesn't like milk and I'm trying to get dairy in her :rotfl: )

How about Goldfish, pretzels, animal crackers, or graham crackers?

all goldfish have dairy even the pretzels. Animal crackers have a peanut warning. It has been so hard all yr. The poor kids have been limited to teddy grahams and pretzels the whole yr.

I was thinking a fruit platter too. How about those little ice cream cups? or rice crispie treats?

I forgot that Goldfish have dairy and didn't realize the pretzel ones had dairy too.

Some brands of animal crackers are definitely safe (I have a DD with peanut and tree nut allergies). I'll see if I have any in the cabinet to see what brand they are.

His mother won't let him have anything homemade either. I thought about making fruit salad with grapes, strawberries, oranges, peaches... but I was worried the kids wouldn't like it???

The kids in my dd's class loved any kind of fruit.
How about soft pretzels. they will even eat them room temp.

We make a treat that is very well received called 'popcorn surprise'.

I put popcorn, goldfish or goldfish pretzels, teddy grahams (maybe even chocolate ones to break it up), and then I throw a few m&m's in it (maybe 3?) - you can do this with pretty much any small snack.

I don't know what is allowed and what isn't with your restrictions, but even if you just mix in teddy grahams and goldfish pretzels in a small cup, that would still be fun and different !

(if it is around a holiday, I get the colored m&ms that match... Halloween or xmas or Easter, etc.). Could you throw a few (just a few) fruit snacks in each to breat it up ?

good luck!

You could put the fruit salad in individual cupcake liners of a fun design (and transport it in a cupcake pan)...

How homemade is "homemade"? Can you make the Chex mix recipe that doesn't have nuts in it? Or some sort of snack mix of various cereals/crackers that don't have the restrictions? Raisins are a good thing to add for interest. And, again, putting it in an interesting packaging can win "cool points" ;)

You could try a veggie tray with hummus dip.

I would stick with items in a package with all items listed. Products now have to have a "warning " if they contain peanuts or dairy or eggs. Fruit is also good. Wash really well. I would not mix it into salad, just keep it simple. Rasins are good. I would check out the snack craker section and read everything. Our children like sliced ham with crackers too.

Good luck. The children's parents are luck to find a preschool with parents so willing to protect them.

Your dd's preschool sounds like the one that my twins go to, LOL! It can be REALLY hard to come up with new snacks. We always bring the same thing (they rotate snack, but with twins we usually are bringing it 3 or 4 times a month)

We bring fruit kabobs. I usually use bananas (cut up), grapes (again, cut up), and apples. I use coffee straws, because they aren't that sharp. Just layer the fruit on the straws. I usually use a marshmallow in between the fruit, but I don't know if your school will allow that.

Do they have a snack list of "acceptable" snacks?

my step son is four and he loves baby carrots...:confused3 They're orange...they crunch...they don't have any dairy...

he also likes cole slaw and spinach so it could be he has odd food likes;)

what about little boxes of raisins? Those are sweet, no dairy...

it IS really tough when a child has an allergy.

raisins and carrots...they go together!!!

what about the apple fruit slices they sell pre-cut in a bag? My kids have had those before and they liked them.

My kids love when they get fruit at school! You could even send individual prepackaged fruit cups. They also love fruit snacks and the cheese and crackers with the spreadable cheese.

I use twizzlers and tootsie rolls with my preschoolers at work and they really love those.

We have a list

there are the crackers he can have, applesauce, fruit snacks, fruit cups, jello, poptarts, frozen things like popsicles (I am not sure if the teacher has any way to keep these cold) and candies he can have.

They are stuck in a rut and I am trying to find anything different. I think fruit is my best option. I am trying to make it easy on the teacher too.
