OT - Photograph during dinner

Hi all,

I know this is a little off topic, but there are so many photo savvy people on this board. I love one of the pics of our family during dinner, but the background is horrid! I have the back of a lady with her bra strap sticking out and it's very distracting. I don't have a fancy photo program, but I do have a scanner. Does anyone know how I can change the background? I'm just so bummed I didn't get a nice background shot during our cruise, but there was just too much to do and I thought our dinner pictures would be sufficient.

Any advice?

You would need some sort of photo editing program to change the picture. Do you maybe have a friend that would let you use theirs? (or would help you do it?)

The usual technique is to carefully select the part of the photo you want to keep. This often involves some very careful mouse clicks as you outline the good part of your photo. Once that area is selected, you "invert the selection' so that everything EXCEPT the good part is selected. Lastly, you apply a blur/soft focus/noise (depends on the program what you have and what it is called) to make the bad part of the photo look out of focus. This will make the good stuff stand out and cause people to not really "see" the bad stuff.

PS - another low tech solution if you are going to be putting the photos into a scrapbook is to carefully cut out the picture so you only have the good stuff and put it into the scrapbook without a background ....

I have the full suite of Adobe Creative Suite Premium and a scanner. I edit out many bad things from my picture all the time. If you want I could work on the photo whence returning from our cruise!

If all that is bothering you is the bra strap, I can take that out in about 2 seconds...... My mom and I are picture editing junkies...... PM me if you would like me to do it for you. Scan it in at as high a resolution as you can. If you want to remove you guys, I could do that too, but it does take a bit longer.... what would you like in the background? That gets a little trickier..... but, it's doable.... I just would need to know what you would want.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and offers! I was able to scan and crop the pic down and eliminated the bra strap lady! I'm going to try a few more things. Thanks so much for your friendly offers

I use Microsoft Digital Image Pro 10. It is really GREAT! You can do just about anything..... Now I see how they make models look so great!
