I am driving from NY to visit my Mom in SC in April and I given the length of the ride (13 hours), I would like to stay over half way through on the way down. This puts me between DC and Richmond, VA. Since I will start the 2nd half of the drive on a Thursday morning in or around rush hour, where should I stay to avoid morning rush hour on a Thursday? I am certainly going PAST DC on the way down but I am wondering if Richmond VA will also have awful traffic on a Thursday morning? Should I also get past Richmond in my first half of the drive?

Do any of our VA friends have a suggestion for a town to stay on or near 95 which won't put me in rush hour traffic on Thursday morning?

Thank you!

As long as you stay in Fredericksburg or South on 95 Wed night you will not have any traffic issues Thursday morning unless there is a accident somewhere.

You do though want to make sure you are well past DC to Fredericksburg stretch on 95 south starting at 4:00 pm Wednesday until about 6:30 pm.

If you put yourself in that 35 miles stretch during that time frame you could be adding anywhere from 1-3 hours to your drive (all depends on timing, where you are on 95 and how many accidents there are), not to mention your stress level if you are not prepared for it.

Thanks Renysmom! That is the exact info I was hoping to learn about. I have already booked a room in Fredericksburg. I actually used Priceline for the first time and I'm so proud of myself - haha.

I'm from Richmond, but I hear Fredricksburg is beautiful this time of year.
