I'm really hoping that we can have a "Rob's finally booked his trips to lots of different countries" party, although as I've mentioned before, work isn't always the quickest at processing things. I'll be irritated if at least Germany isn't booked by this weekend though - my application is 2/3 of the way there and only needs entering in the the diary!

thats reminded me I need to do my leave sheet for the 3 days I had off 3 weeks ago - I never handed the request in officially it was just done verbally by saying I was taking the time off - I'll be in trouble if I dont do it

Wish I could do that... My applications need 2 signatures (3 for more than 2 weeks) and have to be entered into 3 different systems before they're made official and I'm allowed to book anything

It is meant to be requested in advance (but not as bad as you) but Ive got a really good line Manager who knows how hard I work and sometimes lets me agree things verbally at the last minute

Well i figured things can't get any worse can they.

Serioulsy though my Dad (bless him) is furious. He can't understand how the system let me enter 2 applications for my eldest with passports both issued from the same country and that expire within 2 months of each other. He said the system should have noticed that.
God they way he is going on he wants to talk to Mr Bush himself (or go to the Sun paper if they do not sort it) Wish i hadn't of told him now.

It's a poorly written system, but it's also very hard to do.

You can't outright reject two applications with the same name, DOB etc, because it's possible it could really occur. Even from the same parents, it's remotely possible if you had twins and called them the same name (confusing, but theoretically possible).

I haven't used the system myself, but I wonder if it should check you previous applications and throw up a warning.

Personally, I think the best solution would be to allow you to e-mail the ESTA people about your mistake, who could then unlock your passport details section. I kind of see why you can't edit that normally, but maybe they could allow the powers that be to make it editable temporarily e.g. make it editable, then it locks again after you change the details.

They definitely need to look into this as imagine the chaos with all the mistakes people are likely to make

I know that if you renew your passport early for instance then you could actually have authorizations twice as the system will only take the old one our after 2 years or it expires whichever comes first.
What i don't know is is that if you renew your passport whether the ESTA system will know that and take the old number out of it's system.

I see what you are saying about the twins situation although anyone who calls their twins the same names in my opinion is not quite right!!
But i do think it should like you said flag up a warning or something.
