Hi everyone! Sometime next year we will be relocating to the Fayetville, GA area. I am hoping to get some information about the area.

We currently live outside the Twin Cities, in a great suburb. We live on over 2 acres. We love where we live, but are trying to stay positive about relocating. Both my DH and I are from the midwest. We bought our home with intentions to live there until we retire. I think our biggest fear is the education for our children. We know nothing about the education system in Georgia. We live in a area where we pay very high taxes, but the money is put back into our schools. We have GREAT schools. I hear very good things about the Fayetville area. But I am looking for some honest feedback about the area. Please tell me about the school systems. Are there areas we should avoid? What schools do you recommend and why? Are private schools better than public?
Also, we would like to find a house on at least a 1/2 to 1 acre lot. What are the areas we should or should not be looking in?

If you are not comfortable posting, please send me a PM with details. I really appreciate any information.

I lived in GA for 10 yrs and Miss it terribly!!!! Sure the schools aren't the best BUt personally I feel that how good a school is depends on a teacher. You can have a great teacher in a bad school just as easily as a bad one. Also I always supplement my kids education especially since even though we are in a great school district my DD's teacher is AWFUL!
any way back to GA. We lived in Gwinnett County and it was great. I currently live in the midwest and HATE IT! I regret that we moved here even though I know logically it was the right thing. Dh got a MUCH better job here but our goal is to be back in GA in the next few yrs.
I would look at it as an adventure and you may LOVE it or not and the worst case you move back! that is how we looked at our move.
Trust e after a few GA winters you will not miss the snow and cold of the midwest! LOL

Good luck!

Fayette County has very good schools. You are moving to what is called the southern part of Metro Atlanta or the southern crescent. I would stick with homes within Fayette County if it were me.

Be sure to make special trips to say goodbye to all the special places there...Mickey's Diner, the Children's Museum, the Mall of America, the Jonathan Paddleford (do they still run that?).

I lived there as a small child and spent summers there as a preteen. I went regularly over the years to visit relatives and still love the area.

Sadly, most of my aunts and uncles have passed away in the past two years. We no longer have relatives in the area...and it's probably not somewhere that we'll ever visit again. If I'd known that our last visit would be our last visit....

We love the Twin Cities area. There is so much to do. And we really don't mind the winters. My DS (4 1/2) loves the snow. We go to the Children's Museum at least twice a month. The MOA a few times a year. My kid's really enjoy Nickelodeon Universe. We will definately return often. All of our family and friends are here.
My DH will be transferring with many co-workers. So, we will be around many familiar people. I am hoping to get some great insider knowledge about the area.

Hey we will be glad to have you in Georgia. I live now on the northside of Atlanta closer to Chattanooga TN but I grew up on the southside of Atlanta not far from Fayette County. It has grown alot in recent years but is a very nice area. There are several small towns (Brooks, Woolsy, Tryone and Peachtree City) in the county where you can probably still find some acreage. Probably not in Peachtree city though. A lot of airline employees live there. They do have very good schools in Fayette County. I know Starrs Mill High School is thought of highly. One of the guys I went to high school with is a teacher there and he is a great guy if that means anything. :-). Anyway here is a link to the schools and one that you can explore for a lot of stuff about Fayetteville. Hope this helps and Welcome to Georgia

You will LOVE the Fayetteville area! I believe Fayette County is the only school system in Georgia where EVERY school in the county passed AYP. They have an excellent school system! You might look at Peachtree City as well, which is close by. It has golf cart paths connecting shopping and homes. Really neat place to live. My DD play soccer there and we will probably move there when the housing market picks up.

Depending on your price range, you should be able to find something on an acre or a little less without a problem. Good luck with your search!

How funny, my sister, brother in law and nephew just relocated here to Savannah, Georgia, from Fayetteville, Georgia! She was SICK to leave! How old are your kids? My nephew went to Cleveland Elementary in Fayetteville and my sister was an EIP teacher (Early Intervention Program) for Fayette County Schools. They lived in an area commonly referred to as Stone Briar, but they were in a neighborhood called Beaver Brook. (And their house is still for sale there, if you're interested! Though it's by no means on a half acre, sorry!)

There is a brand new middle school next to Cleveland Elementary, but I can't remember the name of it. And there are plans to build a brand new high school across the street. These neighborhoods are right off of Highway 54, and if you continued on 54, you'd be in Peachtree City in about 3 miles.

They moved for my brother in law's job, and I can't stress how SICK SICK SICK she was about leaving her beloved Fayetteville! And all our family is here in Savannah!

Feel free to PM me if you want, and I can ask her questions for you.

If you have to move to anywhere in Atlanta, Fayetteville is just about the best when it comes to school systems and a top pick. My SIL teaches there and loves it!

Now it will be very hard to get 2 acres in town. But if you live just outside, or choose an older home, you are in better luck. Now, the best advice I ever got when I moved to Atlanta was "live where you work". So do your very best to move to a house that is centrally located for your work and activities. The suburbs aren't as bad, but traffic all around that city is insane!

Good luck with you move and let us know how it goes. :)
