Does the name Delilah have a negative connotation to you? We might have a chance to adopt again and we love this name, but we are concerned that it might be viewed as negative because of the biblical connection. WDYT?

Thanks!

I think it's a beautiful name, but unfortunatly, it does bring to mind both Delilah from the bible, not someone I'd want my daughter to grow up like, and the Tom Jones song "Deliliah", again, not someone I'd want my daughter to grow up like. It's too bad they went ahead and ruined a beautiful name like that!

I think it's an adorable name and if you love it then go for it....she'll be so cute, that's what people will think of.

It is a pretty sounding name, but I am afraid she will hear references to the biblical Delilah all her life. From children and then from adults. It would get old.

If you shoot down Delilah you could always go with Jezebell - nothing negative in that name!:rotfl2:

Honestly - Delilah is a gorgeous name but there is definite bad vibes there.

I've always loved the name Delia...it might be a reasonable alternative to Delilah.

I have a friend named Sharon, and a few of our friends (usually with drinks in hand) actually sing My Sharona to her.

Thanks for all your input. The negative reputation associated with the name is certainly something to think about. I wouldn't want her being teased because of her name. We'll give it some serious thought.

Thanks again!

I love the name, but you could compromise and go with Lilah which has the beauty, but not the negative associations.

But she'll be teased no matter what her name is. I wouldn't take that into account unless it's a really goofy name, Then again I don't really feel a negative connotation for the name. Yeah, yeah I know all about Sampson, but I think he was full of himself!

BTW, my DD goes to third grade with a girl named "Angel" and another named "Serena" and neither girl lives up to her name :rotfl2:.

I love the name - it was on my list for my last daughter.

I personally like Delilah. And I would think it would be easier having that name as a kid instead of being called "Betsy Wetsy" - it was not a good thing my first few days of kindergarten. I remember going home crying.

Would you still want to use it if it became extremely popular? Because it might, due to the song "Hey There Delilah."

I hadn't thought about the popularity increasing due to that song. I'm glad you mentioned it. We do prefer names that are less popular, but not too far out.

One of the other names I like that is similar to Delilah is Isla ("eye-la"). We might be getting too far ahead of ourselves yet anyway - still waiting to see if we will be chosen for the baby.

People will mis-pronounce it as Is-La instead of your intended "Eye-La". I would hate having to correct people my whole life.
I went to high school with a girl named Valeria - not pronounced Valerie, pronounced Va-lair-ee-yah. Nobody EVER got right.
