Hi all. I received a conditional job offer to work at the Olympics in Whistler with the job fair they're running in Regina. The only catch is that while some people from outside BC (can't say it on here for different reaons) are being offered accomodations, everybody else has to find their own accomodations(they may include other people to be allowed to stay, but that won't be known until October or November.

So, I am asking for a lot, but does anybody know of anyone who would be willing to rent a bed out. I am looking for reasonable rates and looking at staying from the 22nd of January to the end of March. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated

I don't think there is anything "reasonable" in terms of rental rates in Whistler. You may want to think about expanding your bed search to Pemberton. It's about a 20-25 minute drive north of Whistler. In fact, a lot of people who work in Whistler live in Pemberton.

Thank you for the pemberton suggestion. Sadly I have been running into dead ends all over. The company says that will hopefully have more news in a months time

You might consider posting an accommodation wanted ad on craigslist (on both the vancouver and whistler sites ) as well as on www.rent2010.net (you can list for free there when requesting accommodation).

We own a rental property up at Whistler and the Olympics isn't the huge cash cow for rentals that many people think. Our ski in/ski out access is shut down for two months for the Olympics and Paralympics. While we may get some great income for the 2 weeks of the Olympics, that will just offset what we're going to lose out on for a good chunk of of the ski season due to loss of access and people not traveling to Whistler prior to the Olympics. Vanoc certainly hasn't made it easy on owners either.

I really hope you find a place to stay.

HUGE bump and update

It looks like the company is extending accomodations to me, so I am taking the job & accomodations and running with it. I want to thank everybody for their kind words and assistance. When I got the e-mail and letter confirming everything, I was over the moon. This will be the oppurtunity of a lifetime. Granted I will not be able to continue with university in the winter but this is huge.

Congrats !!
What an amazing experience for you.
You will need to keep us upated on your experience.

Congratulations! We were fortunate enough to be able to bum a place to stay in Whistler and Vancouver - should be quite an experience to be there!

Thanks all,

I am writing an article for the university newspaper before the Games on the pin trading craze (have discovered the evils of Ebay among other things LOL...I kid. Actually, have met some great people with EBay ) and then I am looking to write a report for them post Games on my experiences. Also going to look at taking some pics/vids and will see about posting them on here. Will look at posting the story (stories) on here

Plus, I have found out that the work may be in Whistler and/or Vancouver which puts some complications in my plans as I need to make changes to air res(originally plan to go as spectator and had air and hotel res), and possible bus tickets. Will find out more when I start my orientation here in SK in a couple weeks
