I'm hoping someone here homeschools high school age children and can point me in the right direction to get started researching this.
DS (15) is currently a freshman in high school and not doing well at all. School has always been a battle/struggle. He currently being tested for learning disability/ADD/ADHD. Personally, I don't think he has any of these, but we're having the tests done just to rule them out. The issue here seems to be the "busy" work. He does all right on tests and projects, but won't do the homework, which results in zeros, which pulls his grades down. Our house has turned into a battleground, which isn't good for any of us.
I'm seriously considering home schooling next year. My issues are that I work full time (only work 1.5 miles from where I live). I don't have to leave the house in the morning until 8:15 so I can make sure he's up, had breakfast and getting started. I go home for lunch every day (12-1) so I could check in on him then and DH is home by between 3-4 pm. Is this even feasible if neither one of us is home? What kind of a program do you use? My other issue is I'm terrible in math and DH isn't much better. I'm fine as long as its addition, subtraction, mulitiplication or division or fractions. DH is ok with geometry. We both stink at algebra. Also, how do you handle the foreign language issue if you don't speak a 2nd language at home?
While I'm not adverse to trying this I don't want to put DS at any disadvantage here. I'm just thinking that if he can take his time, learn at his own pace and not have a bunch of "busy" work it might keep him more focused.
