Did you see this?

Some people make me sick.

But this story is also making me feel guilty that *I* could be spending less internet time (on the Dis;) ) and more time playing with my kids. I am not in any way near guilty of the extremes displayed by this couple, but still...I could be doing more, you know?

How much time do you spend on the internet each day?

Wow-that's horrible. I could see one parent capable of that but one would think the other parent would pick up the slack. I actually used to have a coworker friend who's H would spend 14+hrs a day on the internet playing VR games and IMing people (when he wasn't at work). Their house was always a mess because she got tired of doing everything. She definitely did NOT neglect their dd though. It was sad she used to joke about getting her own computer so she could IM him because that was the only way he would talk to her. He actually left her for someone he met on line. Sad situation though, and imo a stupid reason to let your marriage fall apart.

Anyway, I hope that couple never gets those kids back. Some people should just not have kids. :(

I hear ya!

I always feel quilty at the end of the day that I haven't spent enough one on one time with the kids. Unfortunately I DIS too much (my little adult conversation escape). I should work on this though.

I try to limit my time on the computer to either when my daughter is asleep (now) or when she is at school. While she is at school, I am mostly on to do business related stuff for a few hours, but I keep finding myself popping back over here. I try to avoid it like the plauge once she is home so I can spend some good time with her. Last night, that meant watching Charolette's Web TWICE and reading a bunch of books while it's on.

I don't know how you could play a game and let your children scream behind you. That makes me so sad.

Same here I think, I know I'm spending a little too much time on the DIS lately, but that's only because our trip is coming up soon and I want to be armed with info! My youngest DD soon comes to tell me if I have been on too long though, then I do feel really guilty, plus I'm studying for a teaching degree and I do have to spend a lot of time in the evenings studying.
That said, I would NEVER EVER 'forget' to feed my children or to make sure their homework is done and to keep house etc, I cannot understand how these people failed to notice their starving children:scared1: as someone else said, some people do not deserve to have children.

back when we first got the Internet in 95, I use to go to a moms chat room and there were several women that it didn't matter what time you were on, they were there in an in depth conversation with each other. One of them was an in-home daycare provider. I always worried about those kids whose parents had trusted her for their care.

Some people are just neglectful, internet or not. It was just an excuse - no matter how obsessed you might be by something, you stop and feed your kid!

I also try not to be online when my dd is around. She's not right now and I'm getting my time in! Also, I get tired of being online - I want to go out and do things - it's summer!

DSO & I used to play a different, highly popular MMPORPG. We had times where we would spend 12-15 hours straight at the game...but only when DNephew was visiting his parents.

However, we knew people in game who would ignore their kids in order to play. There was also a case of a parent/caregiver who shut the child in a closet so he could play and the child died. People like that (and like the people in the article from the OP) need to be in jail, tubes tied, etc...they never learn.

DH said I spent too much time on the computer. So I solved the problem by getting a laptop!

Since I work on an ambulance (we are mobile, not station-based) I just find a wi-fi hotspot between calls and I can go online all I want while I am at work. Since I work nights, I sometimes have up to an hour between calls so I can check my e-mail and do a lot of surfing in my downtime. I am still as addicted as ever to the internet, but it doesn't effect anyone else anymore.:thumbsup2
