OT: My Son is the only one who is sweating when he plays.

Why is it that my 6 yr old son is the only one who is sweating and all red in the face when he is playing with all the other kids? Does anyone elses child get like this? Should I be concerned?

My son is 9 and has always gotten red faced and sweaty when playing. Not sure why but I just figured it was because he has always been "hot natured". He's also he has never been very "skinny or thin" like his sister so I figured maybe it was because he was stockier sp? like his mom!

Oh, my DD3 gets that way too. Her father is a hot and sweaty man by nature (pitty me, please!) so I just figure she gets it from him.

All my kids get that sweaty red faced thing...it freaks some other Moms out, thinking they are too hot, but truth be known, I'm the same way even now and always was as a kid.

I was always that way. I still am at 42. I keep my classroom where I teach at 67 degrees because when I turn it to 68 I start to sweat while Im teaching. I think its just the nature of some people.

Some people just run hotter than others. I wouldn't be too concerned, unless your child seems excessively tired after playing.

Thanks everyone, when I ask my son how he feels he always says "OK". I say are you sure you are not to hot, he says "I'm fine" I guess it's his nature then. I do get red in the checks but he looks horrible hot and his hair is all sweaty. He doesn't get tired or out of breath, so that's good. I only ask because I said to my DH today why is he the only one that looks hot? He said seriously look it up. now he scared me because that's not my DH, he usually says stop over reacting.

Same thing here...DS3 will frequently be the only red-faced sweaty-wet-haired kid on the playground. He also sweats like crazy when he sleeps, but refuses to go without a sheet AND blanket.

DS9 head sweats like crazy (and has for years) and he turns practically purple when he is hot/ exercising. I actually had a lady scream at me in a supermarket once when he was 1 because she thought he was sunburnt! Anyway, I was like that as a kid. And, for what it's worth he is a skinny, active kid. I teach 1st grade and every year I always have a few kids who are bright red and sweating like crazy after gym class. If he's not showing any other symptoms as PP mentioned, I wouldn't worry.

Oh, you are not alone!!! My DS is the same way. By any chance is your son fair skinned? Because both my son and I are and the same thing happens to both of us.

My DS 2 1/2 is like that. He turns bright red and sweats like crazy when he plays. At night his pillow is saturated with sweat but he insists on keeping himself covered.

DH sweats but doesn't get red. I turn bright red but don't sweat a lot. I guess poor DS got the worst of both of us

Oh, DS is blond and very fair as well.

My son has always been a sweater - from the time he was born. I was always afraid of overheating him when he was a baby, because he would sweat with just a onesie on. He was drenched at his last soccer practice (he is now 6), and his face was bright red. That is the way he is at all his practices. He feels fine though and drinks plenty of water, so I'm not concerned.

DS (now 15) is like this and always has been. You should have seen him after playing basketball at the Y last night for two hours. My grandfather was the same way so maybe its genetics.

Same thing with both my sons. The older one is worse and has had the red face/soaking wet hair since a toddler. I was actually berated by a woman on the playground once for not putting block on my son assuming he was burnt. Busy body/know it all...she didnt believe me when I told her it wasnt a burn and he had block on.

My DS is 6 years old, too, and he's the same way. When he was younger, I thought it had to do with the fact that he has type 1 diabetes (Diabetics sometimes sweat when their blood sugar is too low or too high). My husband claims that he was the same way when he was a kid (And as an adult my DH still gets extremely sweaty and red-faced ... my daughter does, too). You can mention it to your son's pediatrician if you'd like, but I personally don't feel you have anything to be concerned about.

My DD4 gets so red when she's outside that she looks like she is wearing blush on her cheeks! Neither DH or I are like that, but I guess that's just how she is. She never seems too tired or hot after playing outside, so I guess she just gets red cheeks.

My son too He's 4.5, thin with light skin and red hair. He get so red in the face when he plays and his hair gets soaking wet with sweat. At night his pillow gets soaked too, but like others have mentioned he still wants heavy blankets.

I just dress him in one less layer than I would myself. If I'm wearing a long sleeve shirt, I'll keep in in short sleeves, etc. We live in NC so it's not really that cold in the winter but he mainly just wears a fleece zip up jacket instead of a ski coat/parka. Except in the summer when it's hot no matter what, keeping him less heavily dressed than I would think he needs to be does help.

All three of my kids and I seem to keep running faucets under our scalps, we sweat so much! We are of Irish descent and that's all I can figure. Just meant to be in the cooler climes I believe!
