Tonight I discovered that my dd wrote her name on our couch...IN SHARPIE!! :scared1: Clearly we have lots of issues that get discussed on the DISabilities board. However, I thought y'all might have some ideas for me. I have actually successfully cleaned Sharpie out of the carpet, several years ago. I feel pretty certain that in each lifetime we are given only one opportunity to remove Sharpie, so I don't have my hopes up, seeing as this is round two. Nevertheless, I have a red cotton couch with beautiful cursive writing on the arm. Help me DISers!!! :thanks:

I read on a different thread to use antibacterial gel on clothes, and rubbing alcohol on skin, for sharpies.

Hairspray can take out ink, give that a try as a last resort. Good luck.

Before you use anything, test it on a hidden area of the sofa (the inside of a hem, the inside part of the arm that gets hidden by the cushion, etc.). You don't want to compound the problem by exchanging one stain for another.

The Sharpie website recommends this product for stain removal:
http://www.amodexink.com/

You might want to consult a professional upholstry cleaner. You wouldn't be the first person who asked them to get Sharpie ink out of a piece of furniture.

You may also want to call their Customer Service number: 1-800-323-0749.

My wife works for Sanford (makers of Sharpie) and she tells me the Customer Service reps get these kinds of calls all the time. "My son drew a mustache on himself and it won't wash off." etc. hehe So they may have some other suggestions for you.

Good luck!

I have gotten Sharpie marks out of clothing with hairspray in the past. I also use Mr. Clean Magic Eraser for just about everything these days- I don't know about upholstery, but it might be worth a try. Good luck!

Someone beat me to it, but honestly the Magic Eraser does wonders.

My DD wrote 'HI' in pen on my suede couch and I was able to get it out with no problem.

Give it a try.
