OT: My apologies and a question

I was checking out some info on the boards when somehow I stumbled upon the fact that I had a bunch of private messages. I am posting my apologies here because all of the messages were from DVC members. Many asked specific questions about a trip and I never responded because I never even knew this feature existed! Some were from other Michigan residents just saying "hi"

When I see someone in a post refer to a private message, I assumed they were taking about emailing the person. Can you tell I am computer illiterate?! lol So, to those of you who have PM me, I am not a snob and I didn't ignore you on purpose!

The question I have is how the heck do I find out on a regular basis if I have a PM or not? I don't even remember where I was when I stumbled upon this. Thanks!

Click on "user cp" button above. You'll see a list of new messages.

Also you can then edit options and have an email when you get a new one if you wish.

There is also an option to get a "pop up" box when you have a new pm and you log onto DIS. I use both that and e-mail.

I didn't even know there was a pop up box option.

I was worried at first, as I always am about giving my e-mail address to a web site. Worried about it getting onto some e-mail lists and increasing my spam mail count. I have been getting e-mail notifications of PMs for over a year and have gotten NO extra spam.

Pete Warner, the owner/operator/webmaster, assured us a long time ago that he would never sell or provide his e-mail list to anyone. There was some sort of troller a while back that was getting the e-mail addresses without permission, when Pete found out about this, he took steps to make that no longer possible.

You may not even be computer literate enough to know that this is a concern, on many sites it is, I have been on this site for five or six years and have never had a spam problem.

Lisa, that happened to me a while ago. I registered with this board after months of reading it. I still don't know how to get full use of the "web", attaching other sites, pictures on the bottom (I did not do mine - someone here was nice enought to do it for me - I just copies what se sent me). I still don't know if I have any messages, so I would have to apologize too. When you don't use something frequently, you forget.

I have mine set for the "pop-up" and somehow I still sometimes miss messages. Just like you, I feel bad if I discover something sitting there.

If you want to manually check, you can go to the list of options under Forum Jump (lower left). The first one is Private Message.

You can also check for PMs at the very bottom (just below where everyone logged on at the moment is listed) of the main forum 'menu' page where it says 'Private Messages' i.e. :

*Username* "You have 0 new message(s) since your last visit.
(You have 0 unread messages and 3 total messages in all your folders.)"
