My DS11, almost 12, used to lick his lips ALOT! And his lips, as well as the skin all around his lips would get really chapped. First I gave him many Avon Moisture Therapy lip balms to put in his coat, backpack, desk, etc. My kids and I are obsessed with Avon Moisture Therapy lip balms--we use them all the time. But secondly, at night after DS fell asleep, I would (I know it sounds gross, but it works) slather a thick coat of Vaseline petroleum jelly on his lip area. He generally has pretty dry skin in the winter, so I would put it on his cheeks and knuckles as well. This winter is the first year that his lip area has not gotten really chapped, but he still uses the lip balm, and I have not had to resort to the glob of Vaseline after he falls asleep. I think that maybe he is not licking his lips so much? I feel that kids tend to outgrow this habit.
