Does anyone have any experience with the LeapPad plus Writing? Is there much difference, or a big advantage over the regular LeapPad?

Also, does anyone know if you can use the regular LeapPad books/cartridges in the LeapPad plus Writing?

There is not much info on the Leapfrog site, as they are being discontinued. I want to get this for dd and they have them at our consignment store, so it will be less than 1/2 the price of the Tag.

Thanks!

My children have both the Leap Pad and the Leap Pad plus writing. The advantage of LP plus W is there are more cartridges still around as it was the "newer" model. Also, it gives them practice writing and tracing if your child needs that. My kids like them both.

Some of the cartridges for LP work for LP + W but not all. You have to read the cartridge to see what they will work in.

I just bought up quite a few books and cartridges on clearance because the kids love to take them in the car with headphones on long trips! :)

As noted, some of the LP books will work with the LP+W - but - none of the LP+W books will work with the LP.

We have a Leap Pad, a Quantam Pad and a My First Leap Pad. The Leap Pad was my 10year olds, she got it when she was 3 and with the exception of changing the pen out once, we've never had a problem with it. She got the Quantam Pad when she was about 8 becuase I found a great deal on it and my middle was jonsing for the Leap Pad and sharing wasn't going well. :-) Then my youngest got the My First from Nana one year for Xmas. All 3 are going strong and we have quite a selection of books, so I feel no need for the TAG.

Just wanted to mention that they are overall great products, but not backwards compatible. So keep that in mind when looking at the available books.

On the leapfrog site, I just found a package of the Read and Write Leappad and 12, yes 12! phonics books for just $39.99. They also have a few of the leappad books for $5.99. Shipping was a total of $5.

I really liked the leap poad writing one for the kids at school. We were able to get more handwriting practice in during playtime!

Black friday one year we bought them for $20.

The school never had the writing pads before and all of the old cartridges worked in the newer leap pads.

My suggestion..... buy the cheapest ones you can, even if they are used. They take quite a beating and keep on ticking!!!!

Anyone know the difference between the LeapPad Read and Write vs. the LeapPad Plus Writing???
