OT - ladies....IUD?

Love my Mirena. Had it inserted in October of 2009 - no pain upon insertion - no cramping - very easy for me.

No periods, no remembering to take a pill - I love it.

I'm so glad to hear wonderful things about the Mirena here :) I had mine put in about 2 months ago and when I was researching it I found nothing but negative things. I decided to go ahead and try it myself and I'm happy! I was worried about packing on the pounds (just had a baby 5 mths ago and i"m trying to lose the baby weight) I've had no problems so far losing the baby weight and I'm not gaining weight like some people complain about. I've had the nuva ring and I loved that too, but DH and I know for sure we aren't going to have anymore, so until he has the time to make it permanent the Mirena was our option. I will say I had one bad (beginning of labor type) cramp when the Dr inserted it, but after that , with a little help from motrin, it wasnt painful at all. SO worth not having to worry about getting pregnant and birth control every day!! Good luck!!

I have read a lot of negative things about Mirena lately, like women suddenly dying from TSS related to Mirena. I'm also not comfortable with NOT having a period for months or years at a time. I don't want to risk adverse side effects in 10, 20, 50 years because of it. We really don't know what the long-term effects are. I was on the Pill for 12+ years to regulate and control my cycles and that bothered me. I don't want to mess too much with God and mother nature and stop them altogether. I have 2 friends who had the Depo shots for years and then struggled to concieve for years... I'm not taking any more hormones than I have to.

I got the mirena a year ago and for the first 8 months I hated it because it was constant bleeding and cramping. Now it isn't so bad, but I still have a light bleeding for a week every 3 weeks but much less than what it would be without it.

I had an IUD - not sure of the brand name - it wasn't a copper T tho.

Anway - I didn't last 6 months with mine. I had horrible bleeding and passed huge clots of blood - one the size of the palm of my hand! Scared me alot and I had them take it out.

I've been on most forms of BC in my life. I'm sick to death of messing with my body over this. Now I make hubby wear condoms - successfully *not* pregnant this way for almost 10 years now.

At this point, I'm looking forward to menopause. :rotfl:
