OT- Kids sticking stuff up their nose

My youngest does this. One day she came out of her room and loudly announced that she couldn't get ALL of her doll's shoes. She has those tiny dolls with the rubbery clothing. Yup, she likes to put the shoes in her nose. Two or three or however many she has. The first time I freaked out and ran to the ER. That was $450. The next time I pulled it out myself. We throw them all away, but she still keeps finding them. And she prefers to put the blue ones up there...

I stuck a children's vitamin up my nose as a child. My mom was so freaked out that she took me to my pediatrician who STRAPPED ME DOWN TO A TABLE and then took the thing out with tweezers. I probably would have sneezed it out. My husband tells me he stuck a crayon up his nose (yes, a full crayon) and had to go to the hospital to have it removed with something that "looked like giant pliers." So, yeah, this is pretty standard behavior for most kiddies, LOL.

I have four children and my youngest daughter is the only one I have had any incidents with. I had put her to bed (she was just shy of three yrs old). I heard her crying and apparently she had decided that she wasn't ready for bed and needed some additional attention that evening. She told me she took her earring both out of her ears and put them in her mouth "like this"--she demonstrated--"and I swallowed them!" I tore her room apart trying to find where she had hidden them in her room, trying to make finding them a game, but the only thing I came across was the earring back. Needless to say, we had an ER visit at 10pm on a Thursday night, per doctor recommendation. One xray and two hours later, we had a lovely photo of an earring in her belly...
She thought it was so fun to go to the hospital. I kept reminding all of the nurses that she did something naughty, as they all kept bringing her little treats and stickers...I have no doubt she would do it again, if the oppotunity arose. Please note: her ears remain bare to this day!

I had one of my first grade students sniff a ***** willow up his nose and had to have it removed at the ER. His mom was not in the least bit happy with him. At 7 he should have known better but it still makes a good story for him.

When she was 4 my DD pushed a bead up her nose. We took her to the hospital but no-one could get it out (believe me, just about every nurse and doctor there came and had a go! OK, maybe it was about 6 but it seemed a lot!). Unfortunately neither could 2 ENT specialists so they had to remove it in surgery. BUT it was too late that night so she (we!) had to stay in overnight. The next day they ended up not doing the operation until late afternoon, then she was sick from the anaesthetic so they wouldn't let her go home!

So, the bead ended up causing surgery and a 2-night hospital stay!
