My dd (10) has had a computer in her room for a few years now but not the internet. We finally got her hooked up and I am looking for some sites to add to her favorites. Disney is her home page! I am only allowing her to go to sites that I have put in her favorites. Anyone have any other ideas to keep her safe? We have discussed the usual no giving out information, no agreeing to meet people, only going to favorite sites, etc. Luckily we have internet through my husband's seminary and they block suspicious web sites but I know that it not always enough. Thanks so much!

Postopia.com has a lot of games most don't have to be downloaded which is important. (Post Cereal)

Does she have a webkinz pet?

Her cousin just introduced her to webkinz. She is going to buy one with her christmas money. Thank you all for the great recommendations!

My dd adores www.clubpenguin.com

It is the first website she has shown any interest in. She will be 10 in march.
My kids like this too- but I wonder about having this in the bedroom- it does have chatting- and although it is censored (like VMK) I would be afraid of any chat type program in a private area like the bedroom. What are everyone's thoughts on this? I don't know very much about the way the chatting is censored- but I am thinking that a clever person could do a work around if they wanted to be inappropriate.

My ds plays on ClubPenguin and he is on the ultimate safe chat - no typing - only using preset words/greetings. Our computer isn't in the bedroom but I would be okay with this setup. There is no way to get around it, unless the child discovers the parent's password and changes the setting.

Also clubpenguin has specific age groups for the kids. That makes me feel better as well.

Yes- I have seen the ultimate safe chat- and I agree that is totally safe.
