Rogers has released their data rates for the iPhone a very data dependent device.

Here's a link to a blogger comparing the plans to what the folks in the US pay with AT&T.

A lot of Canadians are disappointed with the plans offered by Rogers.

I was eagerly awaiting the arrival of the iPhone but now don't know if I'll be picking one up.

Not being a user of Mobile data I'm not sure how much I need. Don't have any big problems with signing up for a three year plan if it has what I need.
I've been pretty pleased with Rogers service for our internet, cable and cell service.

Anyone have insights on how much data I need?

I would just buy an unlocked iPhone off fleabay or other type site and set it up minus the data on Rogers all you need to do is transfer your sim card to the iphone and change your esn and you are up and running minus the stupidly priced data bundles.

Not to mention if you truly want a handheld device that is a phone and media player etc I would strongly reccoment the Blackberry curve over the iphone.

Bell just announced a iPhone like device.. touch screen etc.

Cost : 149$ on a three year plan.

Unlimited Data: 10$ a month.

Can you explain this to me a bit clearer for my tired old head tonight.. I have Rogers pay as you go.. can I get a iPhone and activate it with that plan or do I need to pay their high monthly plans for this?

Rogers is currently not offering an iPhone with a plan.
Rogers also says the plans it released last Friday are not the only plans available.

Stay tuned for the botched launch of the iPhone in Canada by Rogers.

If you look online you can find many multiple unlocked iphones from the US which being all GSM phones will work with Rogers and Fido even on pay as you go service. Again if you are looking for a phone of that nature I would look past the iphone and it's rather large pricetag and look at a blackberry pearl or curve to be honest. So in the case of your pay as you go all you do is buy the iphone unlocked obviously thus it has been opened for use on any GSM network with any GSM carrier. You pop your sim card out of your existing pay as you go phone call rogers and have them do an ESN change and your new iphone is now active in place of your old phone. You will probably be charged a 35-60 dollar ESN cange fee though just so you know.

I prefer the Blackberry not only is it Canadian designed and built but it has for me far more functionality.

I prefer Blackberries too because DH spends his days programming them, thus they pay my mortgage, LOL. But really, they are pretty awesome!

JMO but when Rogers suckers you in they own your SOUL...:lmao: :lmao:
Don't get me wrong the service they offer is great but everytime you make a change to your service you are signing up for another 3 years. I think I will be a Rogers customer for the rest of my life due to this fact.

Sorry for going off topic but why is my bill different every month for the same service.

Rogers is our main communications provider. No complaints here about Rogers internet, cable or our new Rogers home phone service. In these area's I find they throw in lots of extras for us, free HD PVR and expanded HD channels, 500 minutes a month long distance and the bundle discount to our internet service that in the 5 years we've had it has only been down once due to a Rogers problem. A few other times service has gone down when construction folks cut the line but the Rogers had the service up and working within hours.

Rogers Wireless along with the other mobile providers is where they really nail you. From the nickel and diming you with outrageous mobile data rates, long contracts, roaming charges, long distance, high extra minutes, evenings that start at 9:00 PM, system access fee for years the companies claimed was imposed by the CRTC and the 911 fee is just a huge cash grab.

So folks fee free to post any frustrations you have with any of your communications providers.

The iPhone a device which is a heavy mobile data user just brought some of the less than competitive practices of the mobile phone providers back into the spot light.

We have all our stuff with Bell and Rogers called to get us back to their service (we used to have rogers cable and cell and internet). We tried to switch to Rogers home phone and we subsequently ended up with a messed up phone number and service for close to 3 months while they tried to figure it out. First our number was assigned to someone else's house in the neighborhood so anyone calling us got the other house and we had no service this went on for close to 4 weeks. Then we could call out but not receive any incoming calls then we couldn't call out but we could receive calls. So after all this I called Bell had them set up our internet and satellite and home phone and cell service. So then Rogers calls us recently and asks us if we would be interested in some of their terrific new packages so I say sure what do you have for me. Well we have 4 HD sat receivers hooked up to 4 HDTV's plus our home phone our cell and our interenet by the time we were done getting the price Rogers was 85 bucks a month higher than what we pay Bell for the same services so I politely said no thanks.

Don't know if Rogers felt some heat but they announced a new data plan that iPhone clients can sign up for with 6 GB of data per month until Aug 31.

Bowing to public pressure, Rogers Wireless Inc. has opted to slash its data fees as the launch of the iPhone draws near.

Customers who purchase an iPhone and sign up for a three-year contract any time between July 11 – when the device goes on sale – and the end of August will be eligible for a $30-per-month data plan giving them access to 6-Gigabytes of data. Rogers previously had charged $100 for a 6-GB plan

Walt Disney launches cartoon card game for iPhone
Mickey's going home a pauper tonight...

Product: Disney's All Star Cards
Publisher: Disney Mobile Studios
Genre: Card/ board game

by Stuart Dredge
Who on earth trusts their child with their iPhone? If you're one of those brave/mad people (delete as appropriate), then Disney's All Star Cards is the game to get them playing.

It sees you playing various card games, including Go Fish, Hearts, Crazy 8's and Solitaire, against a parade of Disney characters.

I'm talking Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald and Daisy. The games are presented with a neat first-person viewpoint, so you can stare into the whites of their eyes.

Picture1-2-1.png

As you play, you collect Pixie Dust which lets you customise your cards and even tweak the rules.

It sounds like a treat for Disney fans - and come to think of it, there may be a lot of first-generation iPhones being passed on to children tomorrow when mum or dad upgrades to the 3G model. So this could be a hit!

Expect to pay £5.99 for it. The App Store product page is here.

Ham Ham it looks like the online pressure is working! Anytime rates can get lowered, that's awesome.

I think I want an iphone, but do I need one? Right now we have Rogers for all of our services (bundle) and it's about time to upgrade my cell phone. Can someone please tell me (non techie) the pros and cons of this iphone? I guess I should decide by the end of August for sure. Thanks.

The iPhone is seriously just a glorified iPod for all intense and purposes. If you truly want a phone and PDA pocket PC get a blackberry it is far more functional and will run all windows apps without a problem.

Why would you want to run windows apps?:)

It is more than a glorified iPod. But music is an important part of it. Built in GPS, organizer, app store and awesome web browser.

Screen size is one thing iPhone has but BB is coming out with their own wide screen soon.

Some people like GM and some people like Honda when it comes to cars so a little variety in the smart phone field is welcome.

Hats off to the folks at RIM who first came out with the first truly successful mobile e-mail device.

I had a blackberry and it was absolutely useless for surfing the web. It was great for emails etc but that is it. I want mobile internet use without carrying my laptop....I don't expect it to be as good as my laptop but I do expect it to be somewhat useful.

Will the iphone give me this? Will any of the other 3G type phones give it to me or are they like the blackberry?

I really depends what you need in a phone. I'm excited about it because I no longer need to carry around an iPod, PDA & phone. I can have all in one device.

The aspect of being always connected to the internet is not really something I need.

You can pick up the phone without a data plan but I'm not sure of the price.

Check out this Canadian site for more info. Kind of like the Disboards for iPhone geeeks, nerds, fans etc..
