OT: I have saminella Peanut Butter!!!

I returned my defective pb to walmart today, my friend had 5 jars:scared1: she really likes the stuff:eek:

I have one too - just tossed it in the trash today. Not going to worry about the refund. Our health is more important. :thumbsup2

Does anyone know how it got IN the PB? I looked and could find nothing in the articles explaining. I looked up the bacteria and it says it is passsed from people/animal feces to people/animal. I also thought maybe it could come from the lard, maybe they used chicken fat?

Does anyone know? I use the natural but I'm still scared to give it to my little ones.

In a recent article that I shared with my students, it stated that since the peanut butter is brought up to a temp that would kill the bacteria, it might have been unclean jars or equipment. We are learning about this exact thing in my Science class.....communicable diseases. Cool in a weird sort of way. We have been having lots of stomach bugs going around, but it sounds like everyone else is too. I live in Louisiana and almost every post I have read about this sounds the same.....stomach bugs for everyone.

Take care! By the way, we use only Jif at my house.

By the way, peanuts do not carry salmonella. Most likely, the jars were contaminated. Our newspaper article said that noone really knew what happened.

I had some, too. I bought it the day before the recall happend. I made a couple of sandwiches with it the day i bought it. Then the day it was recalled i had some "stomach issues" and i am wondering if it was the peanut butter.. Anyway, i returned it to the store at they refunded my money.

We had 1 jar honey roasted, 2 crunchy and 3 regular Peter Pan and all with 2111 on them. Thank goodness none were opened. Thanks for posting about this!

After reading the article,it is still unclear how it got in there. If the peanuts are heated to kill off anything, and most packaging plants prewash the jars first it almost leads one to think it was deliberate. I have the reduced fat PP and did notice it tasted off. Have had strange stomache cramps for the last few weeks and will ask the Dr next week when I see him. Very strange. Oh they need to add Florida to the list . They announced last night 3 cases here.

They just announced that ALL Peter Pan Peanut Butter made since May 2006 needs to be discarded. I guess that would mean anything on the shelf that we would have gotten to replace our 2111 would be bad. Ack. No Peter Pan?!

I read that contamination can take place during the cooling stage before the lids are sealed. I have 3 jars with 2111. My DH and DS both ate PBJ this week and thank god they are fine, but until about a few more days pass i will feel even better.

we had 3 jars - 1 almost finished, 1 just started and 1 unopened
i brought back the just started and unopened jars to the grocery store when i did the grocery shopping today (i was going anyways). They refunded my money

Count me in as one who has a "tainted" jar. Funny thing is that 1) I NEVER buy Peter Pan as we prefer JIF. DH bought it because it was on sale. 2) This week (prior to them announcing the recall) I ate THREE pb&j sandwiches!! I feel fine but I'm going to toss the jar which is more than 3/4 gone now.

I took mine to a grocery store today. I'm not even sure which store we bought it from, but I got $4.07 for an 80% done jar! That was fun. Now if I can just get my money back for those HORRID calcium chews I bought. Gack! :crazy2:

I have one too!!!

but I made the mistake of throwing the lid into the dishwasher to clean it before I mail it anywhere
and it washed the code off :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: theres goe smy $3

I have one too - just tossed it in the trash today. Not going to worry about the refund. Our health is more important. :thumbsup2
exactly, I am frugal, and thats why I bought the walmart value PB last time I was there (we buy peter pan sometimes too so I guess either way I was outta luck) But I could care less about the $$$ My dd4 has had reactions to the PB... I know she will be fine, but it makes me very upset.. Thank you to ThunderVolts for PMing me when I asked about the Walmart brand "2111" I had only heard about peter pan... I took dd4 to the Dr. immediately... my heart goes out to all the un ~ "choosy Moms"

I just read the report and this is just a precautionary recall.

Here is a quote from the report...

"Although none of our extensive product tests have indicated the presence of salmonella, we are taking this precautionary measure because consumer health and safety is our top priority," said Chris Kircher, spokesperson for ConAgra Foods. "We are working closely with the FDA to better understand its concerns, and we will take whatever additional measures are needed to ensure the safety, quality and wholesomeness of our products."

I'm not suggesting that you eat it anyway, just that salmonella hasn't been found in the product...:confused3

We have a jar that's almost gone...and no one here is sick...

Anyone wanting to read the full report can go to www.conagrafoods.com
Hopefully, that will put your mind at ease...

Thanks for the site

I went to the store tonight to get some new PB and the shelfs were empty. Seriously there were only 3-4 types/sizes and mostly just the Natural stuff. So I am going to try the Natural w/ Honey.
