Been hearing on the news since yesterday about a saminella outbreak with Peanut butter, they finally gave out the tainted jars and I have one. My DS 16 brought me the jar and said you eat it I'm not eating it:rotfl2: Well since I have heard this my stomach is killing me:scared: It's kind of like when you hear somebody has a rash and it makes you want to start scratching:confused3 So now I have to throw away my pb and send them the lid to get a refund. Thank the lord my dh and myself were the only ones to eat any hope there is no effects its been 2 days since we ate it. Have to wait and see.:rolleyes1

Me too!!! I heard it on the radio this morning and when I got home I checked. Sure enough I have one of the tainted jars. I love Peter Pan!

Me too! I called my mom to ask her if she had it. She said no, but her stomach hurts her to:lmao: You think they will also refund the postage to send them this lid?

I just read the report and this is just a precautionary recall.

Here is a quote from the report...

"Although none of our extensive product tests have indicated the presence of salmonella, we are taking this precautionary measure because consumer health and safety is our top priority," said Chris Kircher, spokesperson for ConAgra Foods. "We are working closely with the FDA to better understand its concerns, and we will take whatever additional measures are needed to ensure the safety, quality and wholesomeness of our products."

I'm not suggesting that you eat it anyway, just that salmonella hasn't been found in the product...:confused3

We have a jar that's almost gone...and no one here is sick...

Anyone wanting to read the full report can go to www.conagrafoods.com
Hopefully, that will put your mind at ease...

Well, we have one also. I asked my son to go see if we had the 2111 on it and he came back looking funny. I thought he was kidding, but he wasn't.
I guess we are all OK b/k I have eaten the most of this jar which is unusual....made fudge the other day with it and had it straight up on crackers for a snack the other day. I guess our jar was OK but we sure won't be eating it again. It's outta here.

I hadn't heard about this one yet, but after reading this thread and the official statement I checked our cupboards...we have one too! Sad thing is the jar is almost gone...I used most of it for a reeses-type dessert that I took to a superbowl party. That night I wasn't feeling well, but I just thought I had overindulged on all the different types of food there. Now I'm wondering if there may have been more to it than that? Probably just the rash=itch reaction, but we won't be eating any more to see if it's good or not. :lmao:

And in true Budget Board fashion, I'm excited because I bought my 2 jars as a BOGO. I, however, will get the refund for 2. Wooo HOoo! :lmao:

I HATE the way the news outlets do this- it is so irresponsible. They will say all day, during commercials, 'thousands of jars of tainted peanut butter are on the loose, tune in at 5:00 to see which brand'
Makes me so mad. They may as well say "Thousands of parents unwittingly poisoned their childrens' lunch today- tune in today at 5:00 to see if you are one of them." :(

Thanks for posting this! I read in the paper about the peanut butter, but it didn't even mention the brand, let alone the product code. I got on the DIS to see what the info was - I knew I'd find it here! We have two jars - one is almost empty. :sad1:

Sometimes it's not such a bad thing to be allergic to peanuts... :rolleyes1

Ducklite...lol!!

We also have the Salmonella PB, scary thing was I ate a big hunky pb/j before bed last night about 3am and this morning I woke up feeling yuck, then I read this...of course I thought...Oh No, but I think I'd be alot sicker if it was the PB.

Gross!

Our DD had Salmonella when she was 8 months old and we were never able to track the source-the health department came out and tested our water and everything.

I honestly always thought of peanut butter as one of the safest foods out there. Not anymore.

yuck.

I have 6 jars:scared1:

One is almost gone. 4 are still sealed and 1 more has a teaspoon out of it already!

MY DH eats most of it and has had some stomach distress...but didn't know what it came from

thanks to the dis for the infomration.

NO PEANUT BUTTER FOR US for a while!

Okay, when I posted this I never thought so many of us would have the "tainted peanut butter". I guess I should start a thread that says, "Who doesn't have the tainted Peanut Butter" LOL:lmao: I am so thankful that all of us that have it have not gotten "tainted";) Have a great day today and try not to think about that you already ate half the jar(itch, scratch, itch, scratch, scratch):rotfl2:

We are a "Skippy" family....thank goodness!

Ok, this is all news to me...What brand is "tainted" ???? Thanks!!!

According to the local news here in Jacksonville, it is Peter Pan and Great Value, manufactured by ConAgra (great value being superwalmart brand) the lid will have the product code beginning with 2111, jarred in Georgia.

"Federal health officials said a salmonella outbreak that has slowly grown to nearly 300 cases in 39 states since August has been linked to peanut butter produced in Georgia.
Dr. Mike Lynch of the CDC said about 20 percent of the 288 infected people have been hospitalized, but none has died. Officials say about 85 percent of the infected people said they ate peanut butter.
The agency said both the Peter Pan and Great Value brands are manufactured a single facility in Sylvester by ConAgra. Great Value peanut butter made by other manufacturers is not affected.

The largest number of salmonella cases were reported in New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Tennessee and Missouri. The illness also has been reported in Georgia.
ConAgra said it is recalling products only as a precaution. It said none of its tests have indicated the presence of salmonella.

If consumers have this product, they should discard it, but save the product lid. For a full refund, consumers must return the Peter Pan Peanut Butter or Great Value Peanut Butter product lid along with their name and mailing address to ConAgra Foods, P.O. Box 57078, Irvine, CA 92619-7078.

Consumers with questions or concerns about the recall can call the 24-hour toll-free hotline at 866-344-6970. For more information about salmonella, visit www.ific.org."

I have two jars. One is almost gone. The other is brand new. Noone is sick yet AND according to the website and phone number, they haven't actually found any Salmonella in their product yet...there is just a possibility.

I also have a jar of Peter Pan 2111 :sad2:

Lucky for me it has never been opened. :thumbsup2
