DD7 has entered a story telling contest at her school tomorrow. Her story is approx. 5 minutes long and she will have no aids at all. She will be speaking in front of several hundred people. She is a very brave 7 year old girl but also gets overwhelmed very easily. I am worried that the whole thing will be too much for her and she will not be able to remember her story. Last year (when she 6) she was determined to enter the contest but I felt she simply wasn't mature enough. I told her....NEXT YEAR... Well next year is here and of course she remembered what I said.

DD7 is in a regular classroom but has ADHD as well as other issues . I hope it goes ok tomorrow and pray she can get through it without getting too overwhelmed by the whole experience.

Please send pixie dust her way. Her name is Gracyn.
I am also posting this on the disABILITIES board.
Thank you
Suzy V.

Several hundred people? That would be enough to send me screaming. You should be very proud that she wants to do this. Sending pixie dust her way and keeping fingers crossed that all will go well for her.

Sending major pixie dust her way - she is so brave! Please let us know how it goes.

Fingers crossed,

:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: Good for Gracyn for trying. I'm sure that it will go fine, 'cause it sounds like this is something that she wants to try. (Sometimes it's hardest on the adults. ;) ) :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

I think that's wonderful, Suzy!! :) Good for her! :)

Lots of * * * pixie dust * * *, best wishes, and good luck, to Gracyn today!! :sunny:

My middle daughter has Aspergers, so I understand your emotions. You are so proud, because she is overcoming an obstacle that is so much harder than the "average" child. At the same time, you are so scared that she won't be able to accomplish it, and will be harder on herself then the other "average" children are. My daughter is 11, and shows very few outward signs that she has challenges. We have been through this many times, but I wouldn't change a thing!

Loads of pixie dust coming from Manitoba!

Good Luck to your daughter today! :cheer2:

More PD :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: coming Gracyn's way! And a little bit extra for you too, Mom! The true winning is having the courage to start! You must be so proud!

Thank you so much for all the wonderful support. We just got back from the competition.

Not only did Gracyn manage ok, she WON 1st prize :teeth: . I was SHOCKED. I couldn't believe how easy it was for her. She was amazing. She was a natural. :cloud9: She had no coaching at all (she wanted to do this on her own she said, I have never seen a 7 year old this independent).

I think it is time for me to start giving her a little more credit. I am just so overprotective of her (EVERYONE says so).

Again, thank you

Suzy V.

Bravo! :cheer2: :cheer2: We are all sharing your pride! It is so wonderful to see any child wanting to do something so much and then succeeding in such a wonderful way! It's a pretty good feeling for the parents as well!! Congratulations!
