We had 129 kids, up from last year's 81, and I couldn't be happier. We had a toddler in a plush elephant costume, a unicorn, a crow, several Jasons, and a grim reaper carrying a Mickey Mouse pillow case. My mom said she'd gotten a reaper carrying Donald Duck. :jester:

How'd everyone else do, and what were your favourite costumes?

We had way too many kids to count but we are in a very young neighborhood! Went through a box of 75 halloween chips, 2 bags of Nestle treats (60) and I cleaned my kids out of all the treats they couldn't have (nut allergies in the house so we did a swap.... candy for a toy then mom gave all the candy away!!)

My fav costumes (besides my own pirate and horse) would have had to be my neighbors munchkins.... a Mickey mouse and an Eeyore!!

Wow! That's a lot of kids ... at my DBF's house we had 6 kids and at my house we had just over double. When I came into work today, everyone brought in their leftover chips and candy. They said they only had 10-20 kids as well.

since we live in a non-child building, but we went to a party!
We were the Edison Twins (if anyone remembers that old 80's Canadian show - you rock!) and my friends went as Count Chocula and Frankenberry. The costumes were hilarious!

We had nobody! Well maybe 20! I was so sad! I get big chocolate bars for all the neighbours kids and they came (of course - I remember when I was a kid and you hit all the houses with the big chocolate bars first). It was a beautiful night too. We had a lot of big kids without costumes coming to the door for treats! I say the least you can do is put on a costume if you want a treat!
My little ladies were Sleeping Beauty and Belle (granny made their dresses) and my son was Jason and my oldest daughter was "I Don't Do Mornings". She had curlers in her hair, and a coffee mug, baggy eyes and her pajamas. It was cute. I refused to let her say she was a housewife because we all know that just isn't realistic!!!

:(

We maybe had 30 kids compared to 85 last year. I was so bored, this year DH took the kids out and I stayed and gave out the candy. I got to play on the computer alot. I saw a princess, cat, tiger witches and a bus.

Might have had something to do with the rain.

WE only had 12 kids but they were all cute as can be. No horror costumes ,maybe because they were mostly quite young.

We live in a community of approx. 2500 and had 156 kids--down slightly from last year. I thought we would have had over 200 as the weather was beautiful--last year it was bitter cold! We didn't have one Disney costume, mostly scary costumes! :earseek:

We had about 5 kids come.. we live out in the country so we don't usually get lots of kids..
my kids LOVED it as usual.. lol They are going to be on a sugar high for a while.

I am going to try to attach a pic of them in their costumes.

Oh, poor Donald!!! :p

We only had about 60 kids this year, down a bit from last time.

My eldest brother lives in Toronto, just off the Danforth (Greek town...yummy!! :)), and he said they turned off their lights at 7:15, because they were out of candy. They had 350 kids show up!!! :earseek:
The year before it was 322, the year before that, 280. Yes, they keep track. :)

Best costume, and I'm a little biased here, but I'd have to say it was my 8 yr. old nephew's. He was a mime. He wouldn't even speak when he came to visit me, but gave a well executed bow when I gave him his treats!! :sunny:

Great picture, mousy_in_Canada!! :)

Thanks for responding everyone.

Snowwark - 350 kids! I am so jealous. When we lived just off the Danforth, we were on a corner house, and kids would cross just before/after they got to us.

For those who are wondering about counting, it started with my Mom and me after I left the nest. We would keep track of how many kids we had and phone frequently during Hallowe'en to compare -- okay, so it's a bit of a competition, but we each hope the other does well. We still do it to this day. Marking off kids gives us an idea of how many to prepare for, for next year. Although, I "overprepare" every year, because I'm trying to build a reputation for being one of the houses to go to.

Hey! Look! Double digits at last!

It was great to be able to Trick or Treat Again!

We got to see the Headless Horseman and the Witch! Unfortunately, my camera would not work! So Hopefully pjpoohbear got some pics that she will be willing to share!

Or else we can always go back next year!LOL

It was great! Got to meet some Diser's! It was so much fun doing the Haunted Mansion on Halloween Night!

I don't want to be here!

We always "count and compare with other family members" as well! :p And it started with us when we were little too ... always had to mark off the number of kids at the door. Our part of the subdivision is still under construction, so we only got 25 kids :( We met a neighbour who just moved in a month ago with a little one dressed as Pooh! We've only been in the house 2 weeks, and my DD said after the neighbour left, "I like her ... she's a Disney fan". Yep, a new way to judge your neighbours!

Janet ... are you back with us already? I thought you were there until Saturday? How was SSR?

I wish ~ This was a very short trip!

Won't do that again! Yeah Right!

Too much to do! Especially when you can relax in the morning with your coffee watching the shores of Pleasure Island!

Last year we had over 200 kids. This year, around 50. Needless to say, we had LOTS of leftover chocolate bars. I took them to my office.

One thing I noticed that was realy bothersome were the number of kids (?) clearly well past their trick-or-treating prime.....I did ask one boy how old he was (no custome I might add) and he had the nerve to say he was 18. Come on!!! 18?

At what age do you think kids should pass on trick-or-treating?

Wow, you must have been really disappointed, especially when you had so many last year. I hope it picks up for you next year.

As for your question, when I was a kid, the cut-off was 12, but times have changed, and I think 16 is reasonable, since kids can't just go out without a parent until they're a lot older than we were, and that is part of it.

However, the oldest one we had this year was a beggar in his 30's-40's. I guess that's what we get for living in the city. Come to think of it, I'm surprised we don't get more.

I think it is OK for younger teens to trick-or-treat, provided they at least make an effort - like a costume.

The boys were not costumed at all, but if you ask them, one smarty-pants said he was dressed as his brother...well I had to give him a treat just for the witty comment. But some of the girls wear their PJ's, string a pacifier around their necks and say they are dressed as "babies" . Puh-leeze....

My biggest peeve though had to be the kid who said to me"just shut up and give me some candy" when I asked him what he was dressed as. He didn't know who he was dealing with. I just started to laugh at him and closed the door. His friends apologized for him but none of them got candy. As they walked away, he got more grief from his friends than he ever could have got from me.

That was the point where I blew out the pumpkin light on a very sad Halloween night.
