OT- how to be 2 places at once?

Oh I messed up! I was looking at the calendar tonight and realized I signed up to chaparone for DS's(12) class trip to Baltimore and it's the same day as DS's(10) 5th grade farewell! What should I do? The 5th grade farewell is only 2 hours long at tops(boring too, I've been through it enough times!) anyway I'm sure his father would go and his grandparents. Or should I tell older DS that I can't go to Baltimore(he was so happy I was going, weird for a 7th grader huh?!) ARGHH... I'll be up all night! Maybe I can plan a special trip with younger DS, like the zoo, he may want to do that more then me coming to his farewell. Advice please!!!

I'm impressed if you haven't had this problem before by the time your children got to 10 and 12! I would definitely still go on the field trip and have dad and grandparents go to the farewell. The class teacher is likely counting on you, as well as DS12. Then you can either do something special with DS10 later or have a special little gift for him that night since you can't be there. I wouldn't make too big of a deal over it, as it is likely to happen again where you ned to be two places if your children are involved in many activities at all in middle/high school!

I agree with PP. Field trip with 7th grader wins this time. Ture bonding time VS watching a program that your younger child is in. Send dad or grandparents and bring him a token back from the field trip. You will of corse feel some guilt but every parent gets that!!!!!

I would go to the older one as well. Can you drive seperate from the group and do both. Maybe the teacher would be the chap for the time you ar not there.
