OT: How often does your toddler have a bath?

DS (17months) gets a bath ever 3 or 4 days. I'm envious of those who live in climates that are not so dry. DS has mild eczema and even where he doesn't have eczema patches his skin will get too dry if we wash daily - or even every other day.

I was ashamed to post when I first read this because I bathe the baby every 3 days, I figured what in the world is doing to get so dirty. If she pukes on herself or she now has a habit of shaking her bottle all over herself, then I'll bathe on demand.
DD3 and 5 have such dry skin that I wish I could dip them in a vat of lotion!! So,they take a shower every other day and get to take a bath on Sunday. In the summertime, with swimming and sandboxes, it tends to be more like everyday. Now DD14 takes a shower 2 times a day sometimes.

In the summer time every night sometimes twice a day. In the winter twice a week. They have very dry skin, they can't handle anymore then that.

Almost every night. It's a definite part of the bedtime routine for DS, 4.

Pretty much every other night (or the next morning) for my DS, 2. Sometimes we go an extra night, and of course sometimes he needs one on demand. My DS also has dry skin, tiff211 - I am SO with you in wishing for a vat of lotion! We've stared showering him with a hand held shower, which he loves! The shower seems to be a little less harsh on his skin than a full blown bath.

I give my 4yr old dd a bath every other day in winter, more as needed in summer. When she was a infant I would give her a bath everyday or wash her hair with a washcloth and shampoo because her scalp was oily but as she has gotten older her scalp has become normal so she can easily go 2 days or even 3 if sick without looking like she is not clean, also I use a daily conditioning spray on her hair so it always smells fresh. I say whatever you think your child needs to look (and smell!) good.

From the time my daughter was born till now-she is 3 1/2 years old, every night. When she gets into a mess and all dirty, then 2 times.

Probably 3 times a week in the winter. More in the summer, almost everyday, as we are out more and getting more dirty.

My youngest gets a bath and hair wash every night.Occasionally she will miss a night if we are out late. She is a very messy eater and always seems to have something in her hair.

When my oldest three were little they got them as needed.Especially when they were four, two, and one years old.

Mine get bathed 3-4 times a week. My dd2 has eczema and has to use special lotions, shampoo and body wash. The dermatologist said to bathe her no more than 2x a week. Her body breaks out in a rash that was diagnosed twice as chicken pox. They get touched up with baby wipes in between bathes and will get one more often if it is needed.

My kids DD 6 and DS 1 get a bath everyday. Hair washed every 2-3 days unless it gets dirty. Very rarely do they skip a bath.

DS2 has eczema too, so Dr., says not to give him one every day, or even every other day. We usually do every 2-3 days unless he gets really nasty! :rotfl:

I'm embarrassed to say this, but once or twice a week..... The kids hate the bath (getting their hair washed) but once they get in there they want to play forever and that takes a lot of time. It's heck to get them in and then it's heck to get them out! LOL

Thank you for starting this post! I am so glad to see there are other families out their who have the eczema problem. My son (age 3) can only get a bath once a week. He has severe eczema. As soon as he gets in the water his rash pops out. I put prescription lotion on him daily.

Our DS 3 and DD 1 get baths and hair washed every night

Every other night for DD2.5, with a hair washing and blow dry . She screams bloody murder if I try to stick her in the shower with me for a quickie, but she'll take one just fine after swim class. :confused3 She had eczema as a young toddler and is just growing out of it, although her cheeks, thighs and backs of her arms flair up in the winter. She also dislikes lotion (more so the having to wait until it soaks in to put her princess jammies on!), making it even more difficult to keep her skin hydrated.

BTW, I'm surprised at how common eczema is as shown on this thread!

I'm with JulieNMM- twice a week in winter because they take an hour! And I'm not going to wash that long hair every day. As needed in the summer.

During the summer, he gets a bath and his hair washed every day because my DS sweats alot. The rest of the year usually every other day, sometimes every two days. On the days he doesn't get a bath, I wipe him down quickly with a washcloth.

About every 3 days for our 16 month old during the winter months. We've never bathed him more than every other day, at most. Starting this summer we will probably start doing every day due to him finally being old enough to get out and dig in the dirt, swim daily, etc.

I bet if people stopped dairy for 2 weeks in their homes, the incidence would plummet. I had eczema so bad I would wake up crying in the middle of the night (as an adult with a very high pain tolerance...had NO meds during labor, for example, or after my c-section)... I was on the anti-itch medication (oral) and just about everything topical you could imagine. I was in pain. Could not stop scratching, and had HUGE red, raised welts on my skin. Called out of work several times because I could not bear the pain. :(
Quit dairy, and have never, ever, ever had another patch of dry or itchy skin again. Found out later that dairy is a VERY common cause of eczema. My son will never consume dairy while living under our roof! (Dh is also dairy-free; we're going on 5 years now! :cheer2: )
