We live in the Indianapolis area, and I now have 2 kids in elementary school. I was just wondering if our rate for school lunches is about what everyone else pays. Ours are $1.85, with an extra charge for juice or bottled water(cartons of milk are included in the lunch price). I told my kids this year they can pick 2 days out of the week to eat lunch, the other 3 I will pack their lunch. I thought paying $1.85 for each of them every day would be way too much money. Does anyone else follow this idea?

Sounds about right to me...my daughter's school is $1.40 a day and my son's is $1.65. My daughter will pack and my son will buy....that's just how they like to do it :sunny:

It used to be $3.75 but we are now without a service. So, for now, it's brown bagging...

We are at $2.50 a day (Southwest Michigan) which includes the drink. You can get drink only for 30 cents. We are a Catholic school and receive no public assistance. When my youngest was in Kindergarten she only had to pay $20 for the whole year to get milk at snack. (because the program was subsidised)

We only allow our kids to choose hot lunch once a week. We do get the drinks for cold lunch day becuase I like my children having milk.

$2.00 for the 'normal' lunch which includes the special of the day (grilled cheese, hamburger, chicken patty, etc), milk and a small side dish (fruit, vegetable, etc.)

$2.25 for the 'pizza' lunch which includes one slice of pizza and a small carton of milk.

If we pay in advance for 10 or 20 lunches it equals out to $2 per lunch so we save that extra 25 cents on pizza days.

I usually give my kids $3 for lunch so they can buy a snack in addition to the lunch. It adds up quickly though, so I try to make their lunch more often than not.

$1.50 for lunch for elementary and middle school here
It's more for pizza at the middle school but not the elementary  Annoying actually - it's the same stinking food.

$2.15 includes milk. We have a hot lunch program so there is a set menu at the begining of the month and no other items are sold.

$2.00 here regardless of the grade. If I purchase a meal in the cafeteria it cost $2.75 for the same things the kids get, but teachers can get a tea. We all pack our lunch here. We are given a menu at the beginning of the month. For the most part we have a hot lunch only.

1.75 here it was 1.25 since I was in school over 16 years ago so I guess an increase was going to happen

We're up to $2.10 for a regular lunch and $2.45 for Pizza Hut day. My DD hates the school lunches with the exception of 2-3 items. It's PB&Js for her all year long.

Ours is $2.10, up from $1.90 last year. It includes 2 hot lunch choices, yogurt/pretzel or salad, each comes w/2 sides (there are 4 choices) plus milk. My DD gets juice included because she has a dr. note that she can't drink reg. milk, just soy. For the variety, I think the price is pretty good & my DD will eat the school options usually better than what I pack for her. Picky kid! :sad2:

Wow... you guys have it good! We pay $2.50, plus extra for milk/juice and if you have a big eater they can get an extra serving of the main course (ie:2 hot dogs instead of 1) for a dollar more.

It can really add up, but it's so convenient! He usually does hot lunch 2 or 3 days a week and we brown bag the rest.

Ours are $2.

My DDs have always packed because they didn't like school lunches. However, my DD is starting middle school this year and they have different "Pods" of food around where they can pick out what they want and she wanted to buy lunch today. We will see how long that lasts.

Included 1 carton milk .25 extra for 2 milks. They always have two meal choices.

In High School DD's school had their choice of hot lunch, pizza or salad/potato bar. She NEVER ate there. They drove to Taco Hell or Subway or someplace else and ordered off the dollar menu. I complained about that.

I'd love to have it back. Now she calls from college. I've become frightened to answer the phone because every conversation so far starts with "I need money." Calgon, take me away...

$1.50 for main dish, 2 sides and milk and I'm in a suburb of Atlanta. The cafeteria makes a big effort to serve healthy food (nothing fried, whole grains, fruits/veggies, etc.) so I wasn't sure how my super picky DS would like it. Turns out he loves it! He came home the first day of school telling me how much he liked the baby carrots (this from the kid who normally wouldn't touch carrots). He's trying new things and eating a wider variety of foods then he does at home, so for now I'm letting him get school lunches every day. I think $1.50 is very reasonable for the food they're serving.

Ours is 2.10. My son just started Kindergarten and is liking eating at school so far. We'll see how it goes. For me it is easier having him eat there than making something for him to take.
