Is it just me or are the clothes that are in the 6x range the pits? I cannot find much that I would allow my DD to wear and its starting to get me down.
I am appalled at pink/brown/green camoflauge wear for a 5 yr old. and its all I see. Why do we have to dress our Kindergarteners like slutty 15 yr olds? Is anyone else having this problem? :sad2:

:rotfl: BTDT! Try Gymboree (on sale VERY reasonable) or Lands End. Sears sells some of their line, but I mostly go to their website and shop their overstocks. Same story with LL Bean. You're actually lucky. The preppy look is coming back now!

YES! I went shopping today and had the hardest time finding decent clothing for DD. She is in a 4 and between the middrif bearing crap and the brown and pink combos complete with sequins, all I have to say is YUCK!

She is one who usually refuses to wear pants, but I could not find ANY dresses that were not hideous in any of the three stores I went to. So, she'll be in jeans and turtlenecks this season.

What ever happened to solids anyway? Simple classics? Jumpers?

Just wait - the worst is yet to come! My DD is 6 (just started first grade) and has now entered the 7-14 department. Talk about awful! I had an extremely hard time buying her clothes this year. She has always been hard to buy for because she is tall and VERY skinny (even slims are usually too big), but now that she is in the next department, not only do we have her skinny body to contend with but the clothes are definitely not for a 6 year old.

Actually, as much as I despise the place, I found a few cute outfits at Walmart for her this year.

I agree!!! That is the worst, the change into the "big girls" sizes is just awful!!! Talk about trash!!! The tops are short and the bottoms are so low cut, how can they expect a 7 year old and a 14 year old to wear the same things???!!! I use to love to shop at Kohls but have now cut them off my list. I do best at: Old Navy, Gap, Gymboree and Target. I dont know what these manufacturers are thinking!!! :furious:

I like my dd to look like a 4yo and not 14! Even the Gap has been getting a little too risky for my taste.

Try

LandsEnd
JanieandJack
Gymboree

Then you can always look on some of the different websites. I particularly like

Bestdressedchild
Hartstrings
Gigglesncurls

I have to say though, for clothing that will wear well in school and not cost a small fortune, Lands End is very good.

Good Luck! :)

A bit pricey...but always in good taste:

Talbot's Kids
Hanna Andersson

I shop a lot on e-bay...still a bit pricey...but the clothes do hold up and and are "classic".

I know what you mean!! I bought my DD6 all her clothes for fall at Gymboree because I want her to look her age. I have a DD10 - THAT is a problem. I don't want her looking like a little hoochy and that is about all the style they make for her size (12/14). So tacky and trashy. :sad2: I like Lands End, and usually Gap for her, too. A lot of the kids her age wear Abercrombie and Limited Too. I am not a big fan of either of those. It's hard because she wants to be in style, but I don't want her looking like a My Scene or Bratz doll.

Lives4Disney :)

I buy a lot of clothes for Dd4 at Target and Kohls. The clothes there are usually cute and age appropriate. Some of the clothes that they sell for little girls at the mall look like stuff I wouldn't even let a teenager wear.

I work at Gymboree. A lot of times it is the kids that don't want Gymboree cute. They want Limited Too next door.

Put rules in place before they are needed and the kids will take it better.
For example No tummies shown in school, ever. If they hear it at age 6 they'll put up with it better at 16 than if it is a new emergency ruling at age 16.

I like for my DD to look like a kid. Alot of the other 6year olds have already given up dolls, princesses, my little ponies. I want mine to get to be a kid as long as she needs. It is too short.

I shop at:
Hanna Andersson: the playdresses are priceless and worth the cost. They usually last years. How? I don't know. But I love it.

Cwdkids.com: they have great kid clothes for KIDS. I got my DD a dress covered in pumpkins and I love it. Yes, she loves it too. She loves to wear dresses and they have great, simple dresses.

We found lots of Carters and OshKosh in 6x and 7's for my DD7 and they are not offesive. Solid colored straight leg pants and plain tops.

It is so nice to know I am not the only one with a DD10 that is having trouble. She wears a 16 and needs it for length and around. I am scared about having to go to a Womens 4 or Junior size since most stores stop at 16. We have been going to Limited Too for Jeans but am with you on the shirts. I was extremely frustrated after 5 hours of shopping and only 2 pairs of pants.....one at Sears and one at L2. NO SHIRTS.......until I went in Christopher and Banks. I bought a cute shirt with a doggy in a size XS. You know when you buy your child clothes in a womens only store that you are desperate. HELP!!!! I am with you guys!! :thumbsup2

I'm right there with you. My daughter is 10 as well. She's not real tall but has a little extra around the middle. The clothes in her sizes are just so horrible. I found a few decent jeans that fit her and they were plus size in Jcpenny. I think they were called barely flair. Forget trying to find anything straight leg. Then there's those pants with sayings on the butt. I don't need people staring at my 10 year olds butt.

I think the tops are the worst. Some of the sayings on the tops are just so inappropriate and that camoflage stuff....ugh!. I refuse to let her wear that kind of stuff. I'm real nervous about when we have to start shopping in the junior sizes.

I thought maybe I was being a bit old school or something. I'm glad to see that there are others out there that just find the clothes they are making for young girls outragous.

Annie

Lands End
Kelly's Kids (catalog, expensive)
LL Bean

I am disgusted by target's definition of what a girl in a size 7 should wear...but sometimes find basic t shirts and jeans there.

Walmart is even worse and the clothes fall apart or stain easily.

Gymboree is cute, but sometimes too cute for my 2nd grader who is still in a size 6.

I agree with the other poster about setting limits before they are needed. (we don't show our belly and Mommy and Daddy decide if a skirt is too short (shorts required under dresses). Tight fitting is usually unnecessary.

We live in the South and things are more conservative here, so the buyers at some of the local department stores have some nice that stocked right next to the trashy.

My daughters don't need to look like J-lo! Let them look like little girls for a little longer. :thumbsup2 Their innocence will be gone soon enough -- let's not rush it along (no, not that kind of innocence  just an intellectual understanding of the world. )

Keep looking. Little girl clothes are out there!

My daughter, who is on the small side, is 9 and just growing out of size 6 bottoms. I find most of her clothing from the Children's Place, always buying clearance for the next season. I have an entire wardrobe for her in size 7/8. I like the Children's Place because they satisfy her wanting to be in style, provide adjustable waists for skirts/shorts/pants, and usually have matching accessories.

I agree with Hanna Andersson and Gymboree. We have a Hanna outlet nearby, so I can get some good deals. The catalog prices are high, but the clothes last and resell very well! With the outlet prices I make almost 90% of my money back on used clothes on ebay!

See if there is an outlet near you. We shop at Prime Outlets all the time and I usually buy things at Hanna Andersson, Osh Kosh, Gap, Old Navy, The Children's Place (sometimes) and Ralph Lauren.

Hanna Anderson has an awesome clearance sale right around christmas time! I usually buy my daughter one of the play dress/day dress ensmeble then!

I also love gymboree and spend way too muchmoney there. Target is hit or miss, you just have to look. I find some things at Macy's and Bon Ton also that are really age appropriate. My DD-6, loves dresses also!

Good luck :thumbsup2

Definitely have to vote for Children's Place! Nice, age-appropriate, basic stylish tops and bottoms. If you have an outlet nearby, you can really do well. We did all of DD8's school shopping plus a couple of gifts 30-plus pieces in all for under $140. We got six skorts, each with a top, one pair of capris with a top, several extra shirts, a dress, a pair of shoes, some sweat-stretch-bum-around-type pants, a sweater and a few items I don't remember right now. I love the elastic adjustable waist. DD8 is tall and thin. She needs a 10 for the length and we just pull the waist in. Plus, the little weight she has is in her hips, so the waist elastic is a double plus!

I do use Target for basics--tee-shirts, swimsuits, knit skorts and stretch pants. Target's flare leg pants made the greatest dance pants at a fraction of the price. They are great on cold winter mornings too!

When DD was really little, we used to live in the town that G. Willikers clothes were made. When we moved to Syracuse, I would make the trip for their annual clearance sale, not worth the trip from FL though. Those clothes are fantastic! So well made, basic, easy to put together. If you have anywhere that sells G. Willikers clothes, they are awesome, usually in boutiques. Expensive, but last forever!!!

I have to echo what other posters say--if you think 6x is bad, wait until you hit 7-14. And the shoes, once they're into size 12+, what is with the hoochy, platform heeled shoes? These girls still play. DD8 plays soccer at recess every day, she couldn't wear that junk if I let her. I have a lot of trouble finding her reasonable shoes as her foot grows.

Good luck to all us moms of girls~! :grouphug:

I am another one to agree about how ugly so many of the little girl clothes are. I like Land's End, LL Bean, Gymboree, Janie and Jack, and some things from Gap, Old Navy, Naartjie and Children's Place. I also have good luck at my Target and Sears (the Cambridge Classics line and TKS line have good basics). Macy's Green Dog line is good for basics as well. I hadn't ever heard of CWD kids, but just checked out their site and have bookmarked it!

FWIW, I went shopping for my DD yesterday (she will be 5 next month). I found lots of Land's End stuff on clearance at Sears for $2 each! It is summer stuff, but it will be warm here through October, and she can wear them at WDW. I also bought some things at Gymboree and they are having their Gymbucks promo now!
