OT-How do you display your kids art?

So, thanks to all the kitchen painting help, we put down the first coat today of Earthy Cane...and I love it! I also love how empty my kitchen and fridge are. But, I don't want to sacrifice the kids artwork, as I love to show it off! So, what are your unique ways to display your kids art?

Hallways are a good place to hang simply matted or framed pieces.

We bought a digital frame and have scanned in DS's colourings, etc... (which are safely stored away.) You can get some frames that use batteries instead of plugging them in.

It works out great for us...

We do two things. First, there is a space of wall above our kitchen table that DS "hangs" (with scotch tape) his artwork that he does at preschool. Each month has a theme, so we will hang up everything he does in a month. This month's theme is "snow". At the end of the month, we take a digital photo of all the artwork on the wall with DS in it. We save the photo...we throw out the artwork. I feel bad about it, but the truth is, there is just too much. We can't keep everything. We keep the stuff he makes of sentimental value...stuff like cards and anything with his handprints on it.

Otherwise, we look forward to starting a new month and seeing "new" art on the wall.

The truth is, our house is not a model home. Many people would NOT tolerate stuff scotch taped up to the wall, but we're pretty laid back about that stuff. It makes DS proud, and that's what counts.

We have our dd's artwork hanging in the hallway with a wire and cute clips. It's easy to change and hung at a level she can see. We are able to enjoy it but it's not cluttering the main living area.

My daughter's idea of displaying her artwork is to tape it to the doors using band-aids. She can't get to our scotchtape, but she knows where the band-aids are and sticks her pictures to the walls with them. So almost all the doors in my house are covered with band-aids, and of course the artwork that is precious to her!

I have to tell you, too...every time I see your kids names, it makes me think of this old cartoon I used to watch way back when..."Belle and Sebastian." Have you seen it? It was about a boy, Sebastion, and his dog...I think she was a great Pyranese, named Belle....anyhow...

As for the picture idea, we kind of do that, too. I save everything, and then at the end of the school year, I take digital photos of each item, and put them in a special artwork photo album. I keep a few special things, and junk everything else. I just don't have the room to store a ton.

2 ways:

1) DH owns a frame shop, so the really great stuff that we want to keep forever...he mats & frames.

2) DH corked one wall in the kitchen (a kind of "out-of-the-way-wall" that can only be seen once you're well into the kitchen). It's one HUGE bulletin board with the school bulletins, kids' artwork, notices, pictures, etc. We decided to do this because DH used to HATE the way the refrigerator looked with a ton of paperwork & pictures on it.

**When the kids were in preschool & brought home TONS of stuff...we covered the walls of the garage with them. Our neighbors thought that was so cool that then they did it too.

As for the wire, I found a pre-made kit at IKEA. It's just a simple wire about 7 ft. long stretched between two bolts, sticks out from wall about 2 inches so it hangs well, and came with decorative clips.

A friend of mind used the same concept and stretched a ribbon and decorated clothes pins. It's really cute. I think I'll do this down the other end of the hall.

After I typed my inital response, I had to look up the show, too I found it one YouTube is I typed in Belle and Sebastion anime. I also had to look at it on Wikipedia...it was from 1981, so I was only like 8 when I watched it

My nephew has a playroom, and my sister nailed four clipboards to the wall, and he can change the art work on those clipboards as he sees fit.

We have a large mirror in our living room - it's the first thing you see when you walk into my house and I like to display all the kids artwork all over it. Once the month or holiday is over I file it away for future decorating or just saving to look at when they're all grown up.

Great ideas everyone!!! I'll have to invest in some of them because my DD has a room filled with things stuck on the wall with whatever sticky substance she had on hand (including bubblegum!)

I have some frames from Ikea that are about $6 and they are "frameless" with tiny clips on the sides. They come in different sizes, mine are about 20" square. It's easy to pop the clips off and change the artwork.

WE took a whole wall in each kids room and started in the middle and worked
out to the sides and before we knew there was a whole wall with all their
artwork. It was just so unique. It went on thru a few years before it was
completed.

We have pictures of each kids "Art Wall" , I'll see if I can find them. and
post.



One of our children took her photo
and had it blown up to larger than a poster size and today it's on her wall in her office.

Each piece of their artwork I would date in tiny letters in the bottom right
hand corner.

When we moved from that house it was very emotional taking each piece
down

We have their two "best pieces" hanging framed in the living room, the rest rotate on the fridge.

One is in a poster frame from Wal-Mart. The artwork is sort of odd-sized and poster frame was our best bet. The frame came with one of those fake photos, which had a black fake mat, I left that underneath, so it looks like the art is matted.

The other piece is more standard-sized so it is matted and framed properly.

I love them. The one with the real frame is very modern-looking kinda bizarre artwork. Matting and framing it made it look like a professional piece- I've had people comment thinking that *I* must have painted it- because I'm artsy anyway- and they're surprised it was a 5-year-old.

The poster frames are handy, flexible with what sized art you use and easy to switch out pieces.
