OT: how do you clear a slow shower drain?

You want to be really careful with chemical pipe cleaners, they can damage the pipes over time. If you do go with a chemical or other liquid remedy, make sure you know what pipes run in your house and how it will effect them.
The plastic snakes work really well. And after shoving it down a few time, you can just toss it without having to clean it off. They pretty much sell them anywhere now, walmart, home depot, lowes, target.

My mom has this thing we call the snake. It's something plumbers use. I tried to search for a photo and couldn't find one. It's got a long handle that you turn in order to send the metal coil (the snake part) down a drain. Then you pull it up and clog comes with it.

Having it has saved her many, many plumber visits over the years.

Try it - then you won't have to use any corrosive chemicals.

I'd opt for the mechanical methods of removing the clog in order to not introduce more chemicals into our already polluted water systems. It is difficult for water treatment plants to get some of those chemicals out of the water.

My husband was a doubter, but the plastic stick with barbs at Home Depot is actually cheaper than the Drano and other chemical drain cleaner, so he agreed to try it. Wow! It works much faster than the chemicals, without the smell or the guilty conscience about the environment. Please give it a try, you will be amazed!

Vinegar and baking soda are definitely not bad for the environment.

Plus not everyone has a water treatment plant - for me it all goes into my yard - I have a septic system.

I wasn't referring to vinegar and baking soda. :)

We use a two litter bottle of coke at our house. Amazing what coke will do. Dump it down the drain let sit over night and usually by morning you have a clear drain.

I saw on another web site about using alka seltzer too, but have never tried that.

and to think....some people *drink* it!!! :lmao:

Anyone ever use a SuperSnake? It's supposed to be used for clearing a slow drain. I have long hair and shed like a cat so it usually slows down every month or two. Saw this product at Target and was wondering if it works.

It does work !! I love it. You could prob make one your self if you were crafty though. Its a long flexible wire with velcro on the end.
