DS is 2.5 and has no interest in toilet training yet. The problem we are having lately is that he is wetting through his diaper at about 5am, which then wakes him up. He wears a size 5 during the day, I have tried a size 6 at night with no luck. I have tried huggies, pampers and luvs as well as huggies nighttime. Does anyone have any other suggestions???:confused3

If youre using the Pull ups type, dont as they arent as absorbent as regular diapers (found that out when my son wore them). Ive heard of some people doubling up the diapers at night?? Or maybe you can put some of those vinyl type pants over the diaper (like they use to cover up cloth diapers).

The other thing, dont allow your son to drink anything 2 hrs (?? you might have to adjust this) before bedtime. If that doesnt work, you may need to wake him up and try to use the potty right before you go to bed. Maybe when hes sleepy he wont mind using it.

ive heard of people putting adult pads inside disposables at nighttime. maybe try that? or i use cloth but i still change my 2.5 yr before i go to bed.

My mom used cloth with all of us, and I remember that by the time my sisters hit 2 years old, she was layering like four diapers to get them through the night. Maybe you could layer a cloth diaper inside of the disposable?

we are dealing with the same thing. we use huggies overnights. i guess they are alittle more absorbant. but just like pp said, we really need to cut out his last milk at night:scared1:

I used to use a Luvs Nighttime diaper (not sure if they still make them, but they seemed to be cut more generously and hold more than Huggies) with a larger size pull up over the top. I also kept a blue pad under the sheet so I only had to wash the sheets and not the mattress pad if leaks occurred. Good Luck!:)

When my kids were little and had 'belly trouble' I used to put a bigger size (2 sizes bigger) diaper over their regular size. It was a little $ to double up but I never had a leak, and the extra one could be reused the next night if there was no spill over.

We had to move from Huggies Overnights to the Goodnites at that age. He outpeed everything. They are the pull-ups made for big kids who are night wetters. Even the small is ridiculously large. They went up to his arm pits practically, but they worked. It helps to put tight PJ pants over them to keep them snug to his body.

We used to use diaper doublers inside the diaper. They look like a "pad" a woman would use, but they were pad strictly for baby. I don't know if they make them anymore, but they worked great and saved me from tons of laundry!

Well my almost 2 year old wears size 7 pampers. (yeah my kids are going to be giants!:cutie: ) and he will still wet through. We just change him during the night. We have always done this and he doesn't even wake up. We've had to do this with every kid.

We had this problem for a very long time. What worked for us was simply cutting down on milk and making him eat more food during the day. He WAS going through 4 gallons of milk a week and now he only goes through 2 or 3. :lmao:
We used to let him drink milk as we read bedtime stories, right before bed. Not anymore. The more food you make them eat, the less they need so much milk, and the less they pee; especially at night. DS is 3 now, but as been fully potty trained for a while EXCEPT at night. I think he still drinks a little too much milk to make it through the night completely dry. :confused3

My DD wears the Huggies overnights but I put her to bed in a regular diaper and then don't put the Huggies overnights on her until before I go to bed. Once I started that we have only had two overnight accidents and it has been quite some time since them.

My DS wears Pullups during the day, Pampers Cruisers (Sz. 5) at night. Like someone posted above, the Pullups just aren't as absorbant as a regular diaper. I check him when I go to bed at night, and if he's wet I change him-he usually doesn't wake up.

This use to happen to me when my son (now 9) was smaller.
The only advise I can give you is change them again (while they are sleeping) before you go to bed (or if you wake up in the middle of night for bathroom).
My kids use to go to sleep approx. 6-7 pm and not wake up until approx. 5 or 6 am. They both (dd now 13 and ds-9) always slept through the night, even when little. When I would go to bed approx. 11 pm, I would go into their room with the lights off, undo or take off their bottom pants, undo the diaper (but don't use wipes they are cold and will wake up) and just quickly put the new diaper on. I figured it wasn't bad not using the wipes since if I wasn't changing at 11 pm or in the middle of the night, they would still be sleeping with a wet diaper. Most of the time it worked but sometimes it just didn't. Especially the morning I walked in and my son was sitting in his crib, eating, YES EATING, the gel from his diaper that must have exploded :confused3
But that is a whole other thread!
Anyway, try to change in the middle of the night or before you go to bed and see how that works. Good luck! :cheer2:

Diaper Doublers! They are like a maxi pad, and they work great. Just place them inside a normal diaper, no need to use the Overnights. I get them at Stop n Shop. In a pinch, we have also used Depends pads. A regular maxi pad doesn't work!

See them here, 1/2 way down. http://www.healthpursuit.com/Luvs.html

try the largest adult maxi pads you can find tucked into the diapers. That was our back up for my twins when we were out of cloth diapers, or didn't have enough layers

Is the oversoaked diapers a new development? Is he thirsty all the time too?

I don't want to unnecessarily alarm, but a dear friend's DS was about this age when he developed this problem. He happened to be at the ped's for another issue and mom mentioned it. The Dr's ears pricked right up upon hearing this. Her DS got tested immediately and was diagnosed then with juvenile diabetes. Frequent urination and excessive thirst are one of the first signs. And I guess this is a pretty common age for it to rear its head.

I hope that to not be the case with your DS, but I would mention it to the ped to be sure. They can do a quick finger prick to check his sugar level to determine if he needs to have further testing.

We used the diaper doublers along with a nighttime diaper at that age, not a pullup. We also started eliminated liquids at least an hour before bedtime - which also helped in preparation for traiing :)

We encouraged liquids during the day esp water and offered milk or juice with breakfast and then water with lunch and dinner with milk or juice only after a good meal and not with snacks. The amount of juice/water decreased substantially, the appitite increased and the night soaking decreased :)
