Is there a way to stop them? Never had this happen before. So far nobody is complaining that they are getting e-mails that aren't from me but I'm getting lots of Mailer Daemon-Failure Notices.

My Yahoo account has been compromised quite a few times and I ended up cancelling it completely.

Yes, change your password ASAP. I never use my Yahoo account and signed in one day to fine about 1000 failed delivery notices. Thankfully since I don't use that account I have no contacts saved so spam was not going to people I know.

I've done that now.

My BIL told me he had to set up a new account and then transfer all of his contacts over and then close down the old account. Sounds like a lot of work. He's out on the boat now so I can't ask him any questions.

Hopefully changing the password will work. Do you think they are actually getting into my e-mail or have just attached some virus that is sending off junk mail to all my contacts?

Run your virus software (make sure it's up to date first) and then change your password ASAP

Run a virus scan, change your password, and change your security questions. Don't have your email log you in immediately.

You need to make sure your computer is clean or changing the password might not do it. I would also change passwords to any sensitive information or anything that shares the same password as the accessed account.

If it's yahoo, did the emails originate from online or from Microsoft Outlook. If it's online, it may be someone hacked you from an unsecure location (you accessed email from work, for example). If they originated from Outlook, then you have a computer virus, and changing your email isn't going to fix your problem.

Where I work, for example, they use a program called ABTutor. They can look over your shoulder so to speak at any time in the technology department to see what you are doing online. As a result, I don't check personal email, do banking transactions, or anything of the sort online.

Also, it might just be that they used/spoofed your email address as their return to / reply to email. That is why you get the Mailer Daemons.

That happened to a friend of mine once. The email wasn't actually sent from their account though. A mess, they were getting bounced mail coming at about 100/minute.

I loathe spammers. :crazy2:

I had that happen 2 in the last few months. After 10 years of having the same email...with no problems. It was so annoying. :(

I ran a virus scan on all computers. Then I changed my email password to something that was not used on any other accounts of any kind! I them sent an email telling every one that I had been hacked and not to open any attachments from me. I then went thru and deleted any one in my email that didn't need to be there anymore. So, if it happened again it wouldn't hit so many people. :)

It happens all of the time with Hotmail. Just change your password and you'll be fine.

This happened to me once. I changed my password but the same thing happened about a month later. I ended up closing the account and creating a new E-mail. I use G-mail now and it hasn't happened since. I was using AOL when it happened before.

Just so you know, it was my gmail account that was hacked. I've been looking for a better email service since.

Check your sent files to see what has gone out. Maybe they will show up there regardless of where the email originated from.

you can change your gmail settings so that it will only work on a computer or a device that's been authenticated. it sends a text message to my phone with a code that i have to enter every time i use a new computer.

mostl likely they are not actually being sent from your address and you have not been "hacked" in the sense that your password has not been hacked. Spammers use replicators and send mail masked to look as tho it came from your address when the reality they are just using the address which they have gotten out of a contact list on a computer iwth a virus or from infecting the email server with a scan virus.

I just checked that. Only the messages I have sent are in the sent folder.
