OT- help naming daughter!OT update 98 and now 170!

I think of Gone with the Wind with the name Scarlett, the other lead in the book is Melanie. Just a thought.

and congrats on a new family member coming.

My oldest daughter's name is Ella. Her name is Ella bc I read Gone with the Wind when I was 3 months pregnant and fell in love. Ella is Scarlett's oldest daughter's name!
We are among those that believe in giving children the names you plan on calling them. We hated the name Gabrielle, but thought Gabby was perfect, so our 2nd daughter's name is Gabby. She wasn't named until after she was born. We had a hard timw with that one!
Our 3rd daughter is Gemma. I took that name from working with alot of Australian clients, it is very popular there as well as in England(well at least more popular than here). So an idea would be to check out popular names across the pond. There are many classic sounding names that may not be quite as common here.

Congrats on your upcoming addition!

Our girls are: Mia Isabella, Caitlyn Rose and Nina Juliana.

I also liked Emmalie and Francesca but DH didn't. Our 2nd daughter was going to be Ella Rose but my MIL would have had a heart attack. In Spanish Mia means "mine" and Ella means "her" and it may just have been enough to put her over the edge ;) having 2 granddaughters with non-traditional names. We had the last laugh though because our youngest is Nina and that means "girl" in Spanish.

We had a name all picked out for our daughter - unfortunately, my brother in law had two wives with that name, and was married to the second one when she was conceived, so we didn't name her that. And then it was hard.

I ended up making a long list of names - my husband would scratch the ones he didn't like. The one she ended up with was not my favorite, but fits her. Although she discovered that one of my names that my husband veto'd was Persphone - called Percy (my husband would not name his daughter for the queen of the underworld - wimp) and thinks she was robbed. She is 13 now and huge into the Percy Jackson books.

My preference is for names that are primarily names of European origin, so for me, just going through a traditional baby name book and writing down what I liked worked well.

The one name I loved, but ran out of babies to use, is Charlotte. However, I don't think that will work for you. :rotfl2:

I love your daughter's name. Gone with the Wind has always been my favorite book so I think Scarlett is a perfect name. As for your new arrival...I like Savannah. It ties in with the theme and "Scarlett and Savannah" sound great together. In my opinion! :goodvibes Whatever you choose will be great though, you know your children best!

It's still a little early for me to be thinking about kids but I like "different" names. I grew up with a big Irish Catholic family so our names are pretty traditional and mostly biblical. My middle name, Elizabeth, is the same as my mom's and my twin brothers, Michael Patrick and Daniel James are named for my dad and our grandfathers who both passed before I was born. So I'm looking forward to thinking a little out of the box for my kids!

My oldest girls are twins named Savannah and Scarlett. I think the names go together very well. We have 4 daughters and I wish I could have come up with 3 other names similar to Scarlett- not too common (although more and more popular now), but not too weird- people always know how to pronounce it.

Congratulations and good luck! What a fun "problem" to have!

We have a Gabriella Marie but call her Gabbie. She has always been a Gabbie. I so wish we would have just named her that and not Gabriella!

I'm a teacher too. One girl at my school is named after her Grandma Helen, but they fipped the name to Neleh (Na lee a ) . I also think looking at the 100 most popular names is a great idea.
I didn't know a single Jacob when we names our oldest son in 1995, and Jacob started being on the list that year

Why not just wait until the baby is born and then take a few days to decide on a name? Hey, if that plan works for the royal family, it should work for you!

I had a boy last October. The girl name we picked was Isabella Grace, we also considered Sofia Grace.

Congratulations, a new baby is always exciting!

I have 2 boys, Evan and Rowan. Rowan could be a girls name.

The girls names that I always liked were:

Audrey
Corinne
Amelia
Irene
Natalie
Nora

Good luck!

I have 2 boys but my girl names were Alanna Kyra Teagan Ashleigh Tara Mairead Brynn Congratulation! and I hope you let us know which name you choose.:cutie:

What led you to choose the name you did for your daughter? Do you want them to have a name connection of some kind, or are you looking for something different?

Congrats!! I have two boys and with my first I had a horrible time deciding and agreeing with DH.

My big thing was checking the top 100 baby names list and making sure the names I liked weren't high on the list. I didn't want them going to school with a bunch of their classmates having the same name.

My first is Brady, just because I liked it lol and his middle name is his grandpa and uncle's name.

My second, I had picked the name Parker for a boy or girl and he has DH's middle name as well.

I love having their middle names being family related and then they have their own identity with their first names and no nicknames!

Good luck! I always thought naming a girl would be so fun!

of course, you could go with Tara...but your girls will forever be the Gone With the Wind sisters. On the up side Scarlett loved Tara more than anything so maybe your girls will be super close :goodvibes Tara is very pretty tho.

If going the color route I like Jade as I think was mentioned and I know it's not popular but I like Hazel too. Sunny is pretty...bright, happy.

Congrat's on your new addition!

When I was expecting my oldest son, the girl names we had "just in case" were Laura Grace or Lily Grace. When expecting our youngest son, it was Natalie Gail or Natalie Rae.

We are very traditional and conservative and we chose Biblical names for our sons' first names. We chose family names from our mothers' families for their middle names (our oldest's mn is from my mom's family, our youngest's mn is from his mom's family).
