So I'm driving home the other day and suddenly become aware that I have entered "skunk territory" (as in, there was a skunk who made himself "known" in the area). It reminded me how thankful I am that I've never been near a "skunking" while camping.

Have you? Eeewwwwwww... Did it happen at FW? Hey, I bet if it did you could clear yourself a nice short line up to the rides!!! I have actually never even seen a skunk while camping...uh oh...did I just jinx myself?

So share your skunk stories here....maybe it will release some of your pain. ;)

Probably 20 years ago we were camping in the Allegheny National Forest with our pop up and a screened in tent over the picnic table. It was late, and dark, and I was looking for something in the tent when I heard a rustling sound and what I thought was the dog eating her food, since we had her bowl in the tent. I was about to reach down and pet her when I decided to turn on the flashlight. Good thing - a skunk was having a late night snack. He sort of ignored me and kept eating, I calmly exited the tent without incident.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

We had a similar incident at Allegheny. A skunk was on our picnic table sniffing the top of a gas lantern (not a good thing to do) and he burned his nose and did a back flip and ran out of the screen house. I thought for sure we would be skunked, but we weren't.

Maybe it was the same skunk! Was it black with a white stripe down its back?

We have had very close encounters with skunks at both Alleghany State Park and Letchworth State Park in NY. Luckily, we have never been sprayed. The skunks just like to check everything out.

Never saw a skunk at FW - - - but - - - had one come into our site at Myakka State Park in Florida, thankfully - he took off.

Then there were the two guys in the site next to us at Myakka that were skunked - but - er....that's another story! :rotfl2:

We were just at Letchworth a couple of weekends ago! Great place to camp. Didn't see any skunks though.

Mental note: Allegheny National Forest is filled with brave and curious skunks...approach with caution.

Wow ftwildernessguy, it was IN the tent?!?! :scared1:

It was a screened in shelter, not really a tent, but yeah, it was inside chowing down on the dog's food. I really don't think it would have minded if I had given it a little scratch behind the ears.

There's a campground we always go to with our church group once a year. We ALWAYS have a stripey little visitor or two.
