OT- Gender Selection?

Gender is based on the DNA provided by the father. That's it. A woman's diet, cycle, etc. won't make a difference. Unless you are going to get into genetic manipulation or in vetro, you've got a 50/50 shot.

Lol, I think everyone knows that! These methods are based on a theory that male DNA sperm and female DNA sperm having different swimming speeds, and different survival lengths. Therefore, when you ovulate, and when you BD makes a difference (with this theory).

With some experience in this field........

There ARE NO HOME REMEDIES that can can help. However, there ARE things to point towards having a boy. Things that are said to lower sperm count such as hot tubs, laptops, and tighty whities will put the odds slightly in your favor. The idea like others have said is that male prominent sperm are faster, so if you "lower" the count at time of conception the odds will go up to have a boy. The other thing to help GET pregnant is to have your partner ejaculate two day PRIOR (and remain abstinent) until they day you want to conceive.

Just my thoughts.

Never used Shettles method myself, but I know 2 people who did and got what they were hoping for. Both used the book to the letter. I know it may not have made any difference either way, but they swear by it!

Yup!

My DH and I did microsort. I only wanted girls and, after I got pregnant with my son, I decided to do Microsort for any other pregnancies to get more daughters. Good luck in your efforts!

My ex-BIL and ex-SIL did Shettles to have a girl the second time. Their son just turned 10.

I had a girl and really wanted a boy the second time. So, I adopted from foster care and checked the "boy" box. HAHAHA! It worked!

Have sex as close to ovulation as possible. Girl sperm swim slower, so to have a girl you'd have sex a couple/few days before ovulation so by the time you ovulate, the girl sperm will be hanging out since the boys are faster, they don't live as long. So to have a boy...you'd have sex during ovulation. I took my temps to get pregnant with my last 2 kids, so I know all about timing....lol. Good luck!

Once again, thanks for all the suggestions. We aren't interested in IVF, micro sort or anything else that involves outside intervention. Not that there is anything wrong with it, its just not for us.

As parents of 4(all girls), we speak from experience. None of the methods tried worked for us. We were told boy twice using Shettle method to no avail. We are thinking of having one more, and I'm secretly hoping for a girl. After 4, we finally have girls figured out. A boy would be too much like starting over. I guess we'll enjoy our nephews and one day hope for "sons" inlaws. My dh also enjoys being "king" of the castle, and loves being the only man in the house. Good luck.

With that many girls,a boy would definitely be a shock to your system:) After having my only DD first,it was still an adjustment to get used to my boys:)

I believe in the shettles theory and I tend to think that when people say it didn't work it is because 1) It's not 100% so obviously there is a chance you'll get the opposite and 2) timing is key and ovulation is harder to track than you think.

I conceived my DD using frozen donor sperm, 9 rounds of IUI, which were performed approx. 24 hours prior to Ovulation each cycle. I had bloodwork and ultrasound to determine timing. We were expecting a boy because 80% of our friends who conceived the same way have boys. It was almost a given. There has to be some science behind it otherwise we wouldn't be seeing boys everywhere we look.

ETA: we were very happy to have a GIRL... my DD has a lot of little boys for friends though!

Your probably right, maybe we timed something wrong, who knows?? We believe we received four of the greatest gifts possible, and are thankful for the blessing. God seems to know exactly what he's doing, as I wouldnt trade them for anything.

Without IVF it's not going to be 100% accurate. Good luck either way though. ;)

I completely believe that swaying can help sway the odds for some couples. BUT I also think that some couples are just "made" for one gender. We've swayed twice for a girl. We are expecting boy #4 in Oct. :rotfl2: DH and I think that we could have 4 more kids and they would all be boys. I'm trying to convince him to look into adoption later on down the road so that we can have a little girl. But if not I'm happy being the only princess in our house. :)

Another great swaying website is genderdreaming.com. Good luck!

No judgement and I think it's great to just try for something new. But can I caution you on one thing please...If you're leaning toward a preference for a specific gender - PLEASE find out the gender during your pregnancy (I know - this isn't 100% accurate via ultrasound - but pretty close with an experienced technician and/or doc). I have a neighbor who really wanted a girl for her second and final child. She 'felt different' during the pregnancy so convinced herself that it was a girl. She told me that she cried in the delivery room when she was told she had a son. That story made me so sad. She loves both her sons SO MUCH, but - just think if hearing your gender initially brought your mom to tears.

So please, ANYONE who has a specific preference - PLEASE find out early so that you're mentally adjusted to the news prior to 'the big day'.

That is so sad! I could never be one of those people who waits to be surprised! Too many cute little clothes (pink or blue) to buy. Plus, I go "all out" when decorating the nursery and that would be hard to do without knowing the gender.

LOL! I did that :) We didn't want to find out what our third baby was, we already had two girls, so we figured we would just be surprised. And guess what!? It was a boy :) Not that that means anything, of course...but it is interesting to hear of the different methods to "plan" a baby's sex :)

Oh that is just SO sad :( It happens a lot though! A neighbour of mine has a little girl and was pregnant with her second and told everyone she was convinced it was a boy cause she felt different (she was sick etc whereas on her first she breezed through her pregnancy) and her DH (who I personally can't stand!) went about telling everyone it "had better be a boy!" so when they went for the gender scan and found out they were having anothergirl they were both devastated, I mean full on depressed about it! I would HATE to be like that!! We waited to be surprised with DS but I suspected I was having a boy :) And I'd be perfectly happy with more.boys, ideally I'd love 4 or 5 kids but DH is having none of it lol!
