So it's not Orlando but its still Florida, does that count?

I'm looking for a nice hotel for us to spend the first night or two of our honeymoon before we leave for a cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale. We've never been to Ft. Lauderdale at all so we would like to check things out. We aren't really "beach" people but being on the beach would be really nice. I would really love to find something within walking distance of other 'stuff' to do. Renting a car isn't really what we want to do but we will if we really have to. Something close to the airport and cruise terminal would be nice too.

I know its a lot, any suggestions or advise?

We were just in Ft. Lauderdale end of July, and stayed at the Embassy Suites on 17th street, it was less than 1 mile from the port and just a couple minutes from the airport. Nice strip mall behind the property with a few restaurants, grocery store and a couple shops. Also an Outback Steakhouse. There is a nice Italian restaurant in the hotel (we didn't eat there but it smelled SOOO good!) The top 5 floors have been fully renovated and are VERY nice (they are still in the process of renovating the lower floors). You would need to make sure you get a renovated room. The hotel is very pretty both inside and out, they have a great full breakfast plus evening happy hour included in your stay (cooked to order omelets, fresh fruit, pastries, etc). The pool was very nice as well. They have a nice koi pond with waterfall on the way to the pool. The staff was great, well......all except for the concierge. She always seemed to busy to answer any questions.
PM me if you want me to email you pics. The beach is a few miles away but easily accessible by taxi (the parking at this hotel is tight if you have a car).;)

There is a Marriott on Hollywood Beach, which is only a few miles from port. It's on the boardwalk with lots to do within walking distance. It's also right on the beach. The rooms are fairly new and very nice.
