OT - Fort Meyers

We are going to do a short trip to Fort Meyers. We want to stay 2 nights, does anyone know the best area to book a place to stay. Doesn't have to be the Ritz, but clean and safe. Anything we should see while we are there? This will be our first venture there.

http://www.visitflorida.com/Fort_Myers This site may be helpful. We love the gulf coast, but we always go to St. Pete Beach. We are usually in Ft. Lauderdale first visiting family, then we've crossed over to gulf side & drove up to St. Pete for a couple of nights pre WDW. Like having the shorter drive over to Orlando.
