I hope this is okay to ask here. I am looking for suggestions on what a couple of preteens could be a wedding party. A little background. My older brother is getting married this summer and it has been 20 yrs since my family has had a wedding, that was mine, so we are a little out of practice. He asked that my DD10 be a flower girl and DS12 (will be 13 by then) be a ring bearer. DD is happy to be asked but DS thinks he is too old. The future SIL has decided that her brother will be best man, her best friend will be MOH and best friends 2 daughters will also be a flower girl and a ring bearer. It is getting a little crowded in the flower girl/ring bearer department and since DS is unsure I was thinking that I could come up with a suggestion on what they could be. My sisters were 14 (Bridesmaid) and 11 (Jr Bridesmaid) when I got married. Is there such a thing as a Junior usher. Future SIL is currently saying that there will be no other bridesmaids or ushers, but I don't think my brother feels the same way, since he has 3 sisters and a BIL that he would like to participate. Although my personal preference would be to do a reading.
Aside from Jr Bridesmaid/Usher has anyone seen preteen aged kids involved in a wedding? It will be a Catholic Church wedding. So far the reception is to be at the grooms home (translation not much room, fairly small house) DD could do a reading but DS would rather not (slight speech issues) DD is a high level Irish dancer who has preformed at weddings but DS no longer dances. (Prefers ice skating) They have done ballroom dance together and could pick that up again over the next 6 months (They use it as off-ice training because they ice dance togther we just got too busy to take them to class, ooops) but if the reception is in the yard at the house there will be no dancing.
I know my brother would really like them in the wedding and they are the only neice and nephew on either side of this wedding. Any help would be appreciated.
